Hurricane Pride Invitational
The first marching festival that we attended was the Hurricane Pride Invitational. We were awarded Best in Class and have not received the other results yet. We were unable to collect our trophies because we had to attend our district competition. A few miles out of Inverness, where the Hurricane Pride festival is held, the door on the under carriage of the bus where the instruments were stored, opened and instruments fell out. I have never seen a trombone case go through so much punishment. The only real damage was to the case of one trombone which slid about forty feet before it hit the grass and started to flip. After we stopped and gathered up the instruments that had fallen out, we continued on our way to Gainesville.
FBA District Marching
We arrived in Gainesville ten minutes before our performance, leaving us no time for a warm-up. I personally believe that that performance was our best of the marching show so far this year. Sadly, being the small band that we are, we only received a rating of Excellent. The disappointment was most obvious on the faces of those of us who are seniors.
Southern Showcase of Champions
At the Southern Showcase of Champions at Sante Fe High School, we performed in Class D. There were many great bands in attendance at the festival and our band was third in our class. We also received a superior for drum major and general effect.
