Gondron
Artist
/ Designer
Fresh out of school, armed
with an Associate of Science degree in Advertising Design from the Art
Institute of Fort Lauderdale, I hit the job market. My first opportunity
came from Harte Hanks Direct Marketing, as a designer for The Flyer, a
direct marketing magazine.
In 1987, after having been an
Artist/Designer for about four years, bored to death with print, I got my
first break into broadcast design when I began working for Univision, a
Latin television network broadcasting internationally. Over a six year period,
my duties went from simple camera cards, to mastering the Quantel Paintbox
and the Mac, to set design. My largest project being a $65,000 set for Calle
Ocho, a yearly street festival in Miami.
In September of 1994, I was
hired as Art Director at WSVN - channel 7 in Miami. Needless to say my workload
increased ten-fold. In addition to designing graphic and sets, I now had
to supervise 14 artists and Chyron operators. Some of my duties included
designing a new work space for the Graphics dept., as we had moved across
the building.
My family and I, seeking to
escape over-crowded South Florida, packed up and moved to Orlando. I have
been working as Art Director for WRBW, ch. 65 since October of 1995. This
new job brought new challenges. Getting to work with some very impressive
3-D software and creating our station's website are two of the job's requirements.
