Like most people, I was drawing at an early age. I often think that what made me a good artist is that I merely thought I was better and this made me practice.

My work is a process of exploration, which might explain why it's all over the map. While I lean towards landscapes, I love portraits and still life. The artists I admire range from Rembrandt to Waterhouse to Leipke to Twombly and Freud, which also helps explain the range in my work. My style tends to lean towards Post Impressionism or realism as the majority of my work is from photographs I've taken.

Part of the painting process sometimes involves images I've taken from my car, often while still going 60. The idea that we experience our world through the windows of moving vehicles has always intrigued me. Not exactly an original idea. I was in Arizona, watching the red rocks of Sedona slide by, taking pictures through the windshield, and the ridiculousness of it all struck me. My Moving Images series is an extension of this.

I am currently rather passionate about portraiture and figure studies. Part of this is due to exposure to the works of Lucien Freud and Malcolm Liepke. I love the painterly style of their work, and the deceptively simple subject matter. My own work is not nearly as loose, though I'm moving more and more in that direction.

The majority of my paintings are acrylics and mostly on canvas, though some are on masonite or canvas board. The times I have painted in oils I've been very pleased with the results, but the immediacy of acrylics appeals to my ADD nature.
