Chapter 3
As I got off the bus, my eyes were fixated at the school.
The sign said
it was Edmonton High School, the one
I would have gone to if I hadn't of moved.
I looked at what I was wearing on my first day of
the new semester.
A
spaghetti-strap flowered dress and black sandals.
My hair was in a ponytail and
light makeup; I hated
a bunch on me.
I entered the office and gave them
my papers,
as the secretary looked me up on the computer.
She printed out
my schedule and handed it to me.
"Jessie is that you?" A familiar
voice asked.
It was my bestest friend from middle school.
"Hey Ashley!
How are you?" I asked as
she gave me a hug.
"Good! Are you back
or what?"
"Yeah, my mom shipped me back here for a while
so
she can do some stuff," I said as we walked out
of the office.
"Bummer…have
you seen Nick? Isn't he hot
now!" She said as I nodded.
"Unfortunately
he's still a jerk," I said as we went
to my locker.
Ashley grabbed my
locker number paper and nodded.
"You're right next to Nick's locker,
come on I'll
show you," she said taking my arm.
Great, I live
3 houses down from the guy, and
have a locker next to him. What next?
She
stopped at locker number 1980, she opened it
for me and stuffed my books in it.
"Where's
your schedule?" She asked shutting my
locker.
I took it out of my
purse and handed it to her.
She smiled deviously.
"What?" I
asked impatient.
"You have 1st and 4th with me, and 2nd and 6th with
you know who," she said handing me my schedule.
I rubbed my temples
as the bell rang for 1st period.
"Come on Jess, our class is on the other
side of the
school!" She said grabbing my arm again.
We sped through
the halls like a car, when
I bumped into him.
He helped me pick up my
stuff and laughed.
"Well nice to see you Jess," Nick said as we
stood up,
Ashley impatiently waiting.
"Yeah whatever, thanks for
helping me," I said as
Ashley pulled me away.
As we entered the
last classroom in the building,
the tardy bell rang.
Ashley and I both
laughed quietly as she sat down and
I handed the teacher my record. He nodded
and pointed to the desks. A lot of whistles were blown
at me as I walked
past to the last row.
I smiled and sat down aside Ashley, opening my book
bag to brand new notebooks and pens.
A lot of the guys looked back at
me, but only one that
caught my eye. I put my pen to my mouth to make
sexual
tension, and then smiled. He smiled back,
his face lighted up, he was so adorable.
"That's
Eddie, he's the quarterback and a senior
too," Ashley said as Eddie turned
back around.
"Eddie huh? I'm just going to have to talk to him,"
I said
as the teacher interrupted.
"Class, I'm Coach Hue, I'm your
Chemistry teacher this
semester. Most of you had me last semester, in fact
all
of you but Jessica," he said pointing to me.
I nodded as he walked over
to me.
"Class this is Jessica Logan, she's from South
Carolina,"
he said as I sighed.
Some people said hi, Eddie waved playfully.
The bell
rang as everyone jumped up putting there
stuff in their bookbag. I sighed and
got up.
"So I'll see you in 3rd?" Ashley asked as I zipped
up
my bookbag. I nodded and handed her my
schedule. "Oh! Sorry about that.
I'll show you halfway,
I'm going a different direction," she said as we
walked out.
Eddie was talking to some of the cheerleaders, I
looked
into his eyes and smiled. He smiled back
as Ashley pulled me down the hall.
"Damn
Ashley, why are you in such a hurry in high
school?" I asked as she stopped
as another hall.
"Because I've been late 5 times already! If I do it
again
I get detention," she said pointing to the hall.
I grabbed
my schedule and nodded, walking
down the long hallway, looking for room 1.345.
When
I entered, I saw Nick standing and talking to
some girl.
I rolled my
eyes and handed the teacher my record.
I sat down in the third row and looked
around, there
were people I knew in 8th grade in my class.
Derrick and Cindy
and Bobby!
I got in a fight with Cindy in 7th grade, I was a
tomboy then.
Now both of us were girly again.
"Cindy!" I whispered as everyone
got settled in
his or her seats.
She turned as her mouth dropped with
shock.
"Jessie?" She asked astounded.
"Yeah!" I
said giggling. Nobody could believe it was
me. Why? I have NO clue.
"Hey!
You're back?" She asked. I nodded as Nick
sat down next to me.
Cindy
laughed as she saw Nick, she looked at me
as I gagged.
"Class, this
is our new student Jessica Logan, she's
from South Carolina," the teacher
said.
I nodded as Cindy shouted.
"Actually she was here until
9th grade and left, she's from
here Ms. Loam," she said as everyone laughed.
Everyone recognized me as soon as she said that.
I heard all these whispering
going on about me, I
looked at Nick, he shrugged. I rolled my
eyes and turned
to face the blackboard.
Florida is the only state I know that still has
blackboards,
at least what I know of.
"Thank you Cindy for that wonderful biography
of
Jessica. I bet she doesn't care that I thought she was
originated from
South Carolina," she said pushing
up her glasses.
I shook my head,
as Cindy laughed.
"Hey Jess why did you come back?" Bobby asked.
He was my boyfriend in 7th and 8th grade, but when
I moved he broke up
with me.
"My mom forced me," I said as everyone laughed.
They
knew all about my mom and her weird ways,
she was a substitute teacher at the
middle school
for a while, so they knew everything about her.
"Okay
you guys, this is not social hour," Ms. Loam
said as everyone moaned.
"Come
on Ms. Loam, just for today? Please?" Cindy
and others begged. Ms. Loam
looked at them like
they were crazy.
"Please? I'll be good!"
Cindy begged.
"Well now that you put it that way, you guys can take a
break okay? But just because Cindy said she'd be
good for me this semester,"
Ms. Loam said jokingly.
She was fairly young, didn't look over 35.
"YES!"
Cindy yelled as everyone laughed. Cindy ran
over to my desk and sat down next
to me on
the other side. "I'm good!" She said as I laughed.
"You
are still psycho!" I said laughing, she just
smiled proudly.
"Hey
Jess! You're lookin' fine as ever baby!" Derrick
said as Cindy and I laughed.
Derrick was the biggest dork, but I've known him
since 1st grade. We're
the only ones who kept in
contact when I moved.
"Hey D, how did you
pass 11th grade?" I said as
Cindy nodded, also wondering.
"Bite
me…no wait you do that with me every night!
Nevermind!" He said as I smacked
him in the arm.
He rubbed it and sat on my desk.
"Man screw you Derrick!
I'm busy talking to
Cindy here," I said pointing to her.
"Hey
Jess," I turned to the voice and saw Lori in
the back.
She is and
still is the shyest person I know.
She was one of my friend's back then, and
I told her
to call me, but I knew it wouldn't happen,
she's so shy she doesn't
talk on the phone either.
"Hey Lori! How are you?" I asked smiling.
"Good,"
she said quietly.
"I'll call you or something kay? I know how much you
don't like to talk," I said as she nodded.
I turned back to see
Derrick and Cindy in my face
talking to one another.
Well half of the
day went by, and all my old friends
and new ones were talking to me wherever
I went.
Everyone bombarded me.
As soon as lunch came, I floored it to
the cafeteria,
where Ashley was waiting for me.
"Hey Jess, you okay?"
She asked as we sat at one
of the tables.
"Yeah, everybody knows
I'm back now, it's like the
newest gossip," I said scooting my chair in.
"Yeah
I know, they talked about it in my classes too.
Is Nick treating you like shit
again?"
"He hasn't talked to me, but I know he wants to.
He
already told me he's going to beat me at the
talent show. He's always competing
with me you know?" I said taking a bite out of my
apple.
"Are
you actually going to do the show?" She asked as
I sinked down in my chair
a little.
"Jess! You know if he wins you'll
never hear the end of
it!" Ashley said shaking her head
in disbelief.
"Well if I win
I can rub in his face that
he lost!" I said swallowing the chunk of apple
that was
in my mouth.
"Jess, do you not realize how good he is?
He
is the best singer at school!" Ashley said as I felt
head pain. "You
okay?" She asked as
I looked around, Eddie was coming this way!
"Shhh!
Eddie's coming!" I said quietly.
He walked over and kneeled down to my level.
"Hi,
I'm Eddie," he said holding
out his hand. He smelled so good!
"I'm
Jessie," I said as our hands made contact.
He kissed it lightly as my heart
fluttered.
"Nice to meet you. I'll see you around?" He asked
standing
up. He was now towering over me.
"Yeah sure," I said trying to act
calm.
"Okay…bye Ash," he said walking away.
I giggled like a
little schoolgirl until I
realized…I was one.
