Chapter 4
When I got off the bus, Nick got off and
the bus sped away.
"Why
can't you get off at your house?" I asked as I got
the mail out of the mailbox.
"Because
this has always been the bus stop,
look there's a sign right there. Look next
time
before getting a stupid attitude," he said angrily.
"Well
excuse me, God you're more pissy than
you've ever been today," I said as
he started
walking away.
"When have I ever not been pissy at you
Jess?
I'm leaving now!" I sighed and watched him
stammer down the street.
He's never given me attitude before; maybe he's
become meaner than I
thought.

Then honk on Ashley's
car was astounding,
I didn't know they were that loud in Jeeps.
I took
one more look at myself in the mirror. I was
wearing a black short skirt and
a white
spaghetti-strap shirt.
I put the note for my dad on the fridge
and
ran out the door.
I hopped into the back of the car with Cindy and
Bobby. As Ashley sped off I shut the door,
almost falling on my butt.
"Ashley's
a danger to herself and others when
she drives," Bobby said as we all laughed.
Kelly was in the front seat. I've known her since
5th grade; we're friends,
but not real close like
she and Ashley are.
"So where are we going?"
I asked buckling my seatbelt.
"We were going to go to McDonalds and then
to a
party, Eddie's party girl!" Ashley said as I blushed.
Now my
heart was beating like a bass drum,
I was so excited yet so nervous!
When
we got to McDonalds, we sat in the booth at the
corner. Guess who I saw? Nick
as these
4 kinda cute guys.
I sighed and got up.
"I'll be
right back," I said walking over to the table.
"Hey Nick, fancy
meeting you here," I said looking
around at the guys packing face.
"Is
this the famous Jessie we've been hearing
about?" One of them said.
"God…Jess,
this is Brian, A.J., Howie, Kevin. Guys,
this is Jessie," he said pointing
to everyone.
"Hi," I said shaking all their hands.
"So
you're Jessie huh? Nick has told us a lot about
you," Brian said. Nick smacked
him in the gut so hard
I could hear it from where I was.
"Good stuff
I hope. Probably not, right?" I
asked. They all laughed as Nick beat his
head
on the table. "Um, I gotta go, we're going to Eddie's
party. You
guys going?" I asked stepping a few
steps back.
"Doubtful, bye
Jess!" Nick said impatient. They
were all laughing, why I didn't know!
"Whatever
Nick, nice meeting you guys,
a lot nicer than he is," I said angrily as
I sat down.
They were laughing even harder now. Brian was
talking to
Nick quietly about something,
Nick was upset about something as Brian talked
to him.
"Jess quit wondering about Nick, we have to eat fast
so we
can get to Eddie's party in time to actually
see Eddie!" Cindy said throwing
me my burger.
"What do you mean?" I asked curiously.
"He's
usually gone after an hour, doing something
I guess, screwin' a girl probably,"
Cindy said as
everyone nodded.
"I doubt he's like that!" I said
defending him.
"Oh believe me, he is. Right Ash? She's done him
before,"
Cindy said as Ashley nodded.
"Really?" I asked. I always thought
she would
stay a virgin till the end of time!
"Um…yeah," she
said quietly.
Apparently it was a touchy subject,
so I just nodded and
ate my burger in haste.

When
we walked through the doorway of Eddie's large
house, the music and the talking
engulfed me almost
immediately.
I looked around for Eddie, and when I
finally found
him he was sitting on the couch in his living room.
When
we made eye contact my heart pounded,
he looked so good.
"Hey Jess!
Come over here!" Eddie yelled over
the music. I walked around the people
and sat down
next to him and some girl. "You guys, this is Jessie
Logan.
Jess this is Jeff, Kyle, Billy, Joanna,
Haley, and that guy drinking an immense
amount of beer is my brother Simon," he said pointing
at everyone.
I
was sitting next to Joanna apparently, she was very
pretty and looked younger
than a senior in high school.
"Hi!" I yelled over the music, they
nodded,
I guess that was a good thing, I had no idea.
"Hey weren't
you in my 8th grade class?" Kyle asked.
I tried to picture a Kyle, and the
acne-faced boy with black rimmed glasses came
to mind.
"Yeah!
I remember you! You sat behind me in
English right?" I asked making sure
that it was the
right Kyle I was thinking of.
"Yep, that was me!
Acne
boy!" He said as everyone laughed.
Eddie got up and took my
hand.
"Let's go dance," he whispered in my ear playfully.
I
nodded and waved to everyone as we made our
way to the dance floor, a.k.a. kitchen.
The
night was great, I really got to know
Eddie and his friends, it was so much fun.
Ashley got a date with Kyle, which is kinda ironic,
he always had a crush
on her and she never gave him
the time of day.
When we finally got back,
it was around 4 in
the morning, and I was dead to the world.
Ashley walked
me to the door and ran
back in her Jeep, speeding as usual.
I looked
at the sky, it was starting to get bright,
but I could still see the stars that
glimmered on my face.
As I looked down, I saw a light on in Nick's house
and a figure looking out at me. It kinda creeped me
out.
Hoping it
was Nick, I brushed it off and
went inside, tiptoeing downstairs. I closed my
blinds and changed into a oversized shirt.
I took my hair down and brushed
it in the mirror.
Looking at myself I couldn't help but wonder,
why Eddie
would like someone like me?
I sighed and hopped into bed, turning off the
light with the switch by my bed. I held onto my Elmo,
as I knew…this was
going to be a long year.
