"Jessie? Honey we have to go soon,"
Vicki said waking me up with
her birdcall of a voice.
"Give me a minute to change," I said sitting
up.
"Brush your hair too child!" She said shutting my door.
I
shrugged and looked in the mirror. I looked
like I had an Afro!
I changed
and brushed my hair for at least 5 minutes
to get all the knots out.
"Jess!
Come on honey!" Vicki yelled as I ran up
the stairs.
"Let's
go!" I said as we both got into the car.
A day of hair and nail appointments,
yey!
Especially with Vicki, the one who has hot pink
fingernails and a
neon green jumper on. Where does
she find all this stuff? Garage sales or what?

"Oh
honey I love it!" Vicki said looking at my hair.
"You know, for
once we agree on something," I said
looking at my hair in the dashboard
mirror in the car.
"We have to hurry we only have 2 hours to get
ready!"
She said speeding from 50 to 85.
I held onto the car for dear life as she sped
home.
I opened my closet door and took the plastic
off the hanger, looking
at my dress before me.
"AH!" I screamed as I heard a noise at my
window.
I looked over and saw A.J.
"Jess open up!" A.J. said
as I walked over to the
window.
"What are you doing here I have to
get ready
to go!" I said opening the window aggravated.
"I
just wanted to see you before you went," he said
standing before me. "You're
not even ready yet!"
"I know! Get out of here and I'll walk over
to Nick's
house when I'm done okay?" I said shoving him.
He jumped
out the window and ran to Nick's house.
I smiled and shut the blinds, changing
into my green
dress that I loved.

"What
do you think?" I asked my parents and Ryan.
"Wow!" Ryan said
holding Chaos.
"Aw you look adorable!" Vicki said taking a picture.
"You
look beautiful," my dad said kissing my cheek.
The phone rang as soon
as I was about to
walk over to Nick's house.
"Hello?" I asked.
"Hey
Jess, um, it's Eddie," Eddie said quietly.
"Yeah I know! Are you
coming?"
"Um, actually no. You've been in your own world
lately
and I haven't talked to you in a week. I'm
sorry Jess, I'm going with someone
else," he said
as my mouth dropped.
"Fine," I said hanging
up the phone in anger. "I'm going
to Nick's house," I said angrily.
I ran over as fast as
I could in those stupid green platforms.
I banged
on the door almost in tears.
"Jess?" Brian asked as he let me in.
Everyone was sitting on the couch, A.J., Kevin,
Howie, BJ, and Nick.
"Jess
what's wrong?" BJ asked getting up
and walking over to me. I hugged her
as I burst into
tears.
"He's going with somebody else BJ! He dumped
me
the day of the prom!" I said as she held me. I was
crying like
a baby and didn't care.
"Come on," BJ said taking me upstairs to
her room.
I looked over at the guys, who looked at me with
sadness, Nick
angry more than anything.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"There,
I fixed it," BJ said fixing my makeup. I looked
in the mirror and sighed.
"Thanks,"
I said trying not to start crying again.
"Hey Jess?" Nick asked
peeking his head in.
"Um, yeah?" I said as we walked out of the
bathroom.
"I'm leaving right now, you want to come with
me?"
He asked looking a little nervous.
"Yeah sure, my parents would be upset
if
I skipped this. Thanks," I said as we walked down
the stairs.
"Oh
just look at you two," Jane said taking a picture.
"Thanks Jane,"
I said shyly.
"Bye mom, bye guys," Nick said as we
walked out.
"You okay?" He asked me as we got
into the car.
"Yeah
I'll be fine, promise," I said getting in the
passenger's seat.
"That's
cause you'll be around me right?" He said
turning on the car.
"Oh
yeah!" I said laughing. Nick always found a
way of cheering me up lately;
I loved him even more
for that.
"You ready to go in?" He asked
parking the car.
"Ready as I can be," I said as he jumped out.
He
opened my door and took my hand.
"Let's go m'dear," he
said as we walked to the gym.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"Hey
Cindy!" I said running over to her table.
"Hey girl! Where's Eddie?"
She asked as I rolled
my eyes.
"He dumped me," I said brushing
it off. "Where's
Jimmy?"
"He's getting us drinks,"
she said as I sat down next
to her.
"When did you get here?"
"Like
20 minutes ago, you?"
"Just a second ago. Guess who took me?"
"Ryan?"
"Nick!"
"Oh
God Jess," she said shaking her head in disbelief.
"What?"
"Nevermind here comes your parents," she said
pointing to them.
Vicki was wearing a bright yellow long dress with
a periwinkle train
and my dad was
wearing a bright yellow tux. I shook my head in pain.
"Hey
honey!" My dad said kissing my cheek.
"We saw Nick, he looks so
adorable!" Vicki said
looking around for him again.
"I know
Vicki," I said sighing.
"Oh Nick! Nick come here!" Vicki
said signaling
Nick who was talking to Derrick.
"Hi Vicki, you look
beautiful," Nick said trying
not to laugh.
"Why thank you Nick!
Isn't he a gentlemen?" Vicki
asked as I shrugged.
"Yeah Vicki,"
I said still embarrassed I was
talking to them.
"So where is Eddie
sweetie?" Dad asked as I
covered my face.
"I don't know daddy,"
I said getting aggravated.
"Well when you see him tell us! Bye you guys!"
Vicki
said as they walked away.
I banged my head on the table and looked
back at Nick, "God help me."
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
After
an hour of just talking to Cindy and
Jimmy, my parents came over to me again.
"Honey
why don't you and Nick dance?" Vicki
asked as I shook my head.
"NO!"
I said.
"Oh come on, you haven't
danced at all yet!" Dad said
as I shrugged.
"Fine dad," I said getting up and looking for Nick.
I spotted him beside the corner wall talking
to some guy. I sighed
nervously and walked over to
him.
"Hey," I said interrupting
their conversation.
"Hey Jess," Nick said as the guy walked away.
"Vicki
and dad want me to dance with you…"
"Say please," he said as
I smiled.
"Funny," I said as we walked out to the dance floor.
I
took his left hand into my right as I looked into his
eyes. I put my left hand
on his shoulder as he
wrapped his right arm around my waist.
The blaring
music was Brian McKnight's "Anytime."
I laid my head on his chest
and heard his speeding
heart. Knowing he was nervous comforted me
in a way.
He squeezed my sprained hand as I
took my hand.
"Ouch!" I
said holding it.
"Wow I'm sorry," he said sadly.
"It's
okay," I said as we got back into our slow
dance position. As people moved
back and forth,
Eddie came into view. I looked in anger and sadness;
he
was with that Haley girl!
"Don't worry about him," Nick said apparently
noticing
them too.
"I know I shouldn't, but it's hard," I said
as I looked
into his eyes. "I should have listened to you when
you
said he was a jerk."
"Yeah! Showed you!" He said as I laughed.
"I'm
glad I came with you," I said hugging him.
I was so happy there in his
arms; I didn't want
the 2 minutes of holding him to go away.
For I knew,
it would never happen again.
