Chapter 1
"You did what?" I yelled at my mother furiously.
"I'm sorry
Jess, I just couldn't resist! And I know how
much you love Dad and Vicki,"
she said with a smirk.
I could have
slapped her. She has planned out for
me to go out and
move in with my dad and my step mom in Florida.
My life
mind you. She just wanted to be alone with
her boyfriends for the summer, it
made me sick.
"MOM! You know Nick lives down there, ugh!" I
yelled.
I sat down on my bed and rubbed my temples,
I was getting a real bad migraine.
"So
what Jess? I doubt you'll see him, it is a
big state," she said sitting
next to me.
"Did you forget? He lives like five minutes away you
dork!"
I said quietly, trying not to increase my migraine
pains.
"He does
doesn't he…oh well…want me to help you pack?"
She said cheerfully. I sighed
and nodded,
hoping it would shut her up.
My name is Jessica Logan;
I'm
18 and a senior at Albert M. Johnson
high school, or was, the school of dreams
as they say.
I'm your typical looking airhead, but not one.
Blonde hair,
blue eyes, medium height,
and stupid laugh. That's me, just your average
looking
airhead trying to get by.
But then the words Nick Carter came into my life.
I lived in Florida with my dad when I was 8 and stayed
there until I was
14. Nick Carter was the blonde
nightmare that almost ruined my whole life. The
one
incident that always pops in my head was when I ran
for student council
president for the middle school.
Nick, of course competing with me, decided to
run as
well.
He won of course, but only because he made
jokes about
me to other voters and made promises
that would never happen. He regretted doing
it too,
that I'll never forget, funniest time of my life.
So that's me
and my worst nightmare, Nick Carter.
God even using his name in past tense makes
me tingle,
but in a good way…now.
As I got off the plane, the sun blinded
me, so bright in Florida;
I definitely didn't miss that. I put on my shades and
headed inside the airport.
There they were, Vicki and my dad, the two
weirdest
people I've ever met. Vicki grabbed me and wrapped
her arms around
me, hugging me tight and giggling
uncontrollably. My dad kissed me leaving a
wet trail of
spit on the side of my face.
"How are you honey?"
She asked with her southern
accent. They were originally from Tennessee but moved
here in the 80's.
"How was the flight?" Dad asked.
"Good
dad, real good," I said as we walked to
baggage claim.
I wiped my
cheek and brushed the spit on the back of
Vicki. Luckily she didn't notice, she
just thought
I was putting my arm around her, so she did the same.
"Nick
asked about you!" Vicki said as dad nodded.
"Oh really?" I
said acting interested. They think we are
like a couple ever since I've known
him.
"Of course baby doll! Come on, let's go home and make
you some
dinner. Potatoes and meatloaf sweetheart?"
She asked as I picked up my bags.
I nodded in pain,
my migraine was coming back slowly.
As we turned onto
the street of hell, my head pounded
and my heart beaded obsessively.
I
looked at Nick's house, just as it was before, just
older. The trees were longer,
leaves were greener,
and the lake in the back more blue.
His house I had
to admit was beautiful.
A little boy was running around with a little girl
as I
smiled. Aaron and Angel most definitely.
We stopped at Vicki and
dad's house; I sighed with
utter
embarrassment. It was the brightest house
on the street
and the largest. Pink with blue shutters, the color
was awful,
and so was the inside. At least of
what I remembered.
I entered and the
embarrassment turned into more
migraine pain. The walls were yellow with a black
rim and
the couches were red leather.
My dad was never ever this weird
until he married Vicki,
trust me.
"Rob honey can you show Jessie
Bessy to her room?" Vicki
asked as she headed into the kitchen.
"No
problem sugar, come on Jess!" He said happily.
I walked with him into
the basement, it became
more dark and gloomy as we walked down step by
step.
He opened the door on the right and turned
on the light.
I was surprised...a
normal room.
"Your mother told us to design it like this, it's the guest
room
made just for you! Why don't you go see Nick Jessie?" He
asked
as I dumped my stuff on the floor.
"Maybe later, I'm going to take a
nap," I said sighing.
My migraine was so heavy I felt my knees giving out.
I sat down on the bed hoping he didn't notice.
"Well okay hon, we'll
wake you when dinner's ready!" He
said shutting the door and running up
the steps.
They had more energy than I did, that scared me to no
end.
I
put my clothes into the dresser and laid my stuffed
animals on my bed. I opened
the blinds and looked out
the window, staring at Nick's house, wondering if the
idiot was there. I sighed and hopped into bed, falling to
sleep almost instantly.
