My Lullaby

Kookaburra

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Merry, merry king of the bush is he
Laugh, Kookaburra! Laugh, Kookaburra!
Gay your life must be

Kookaburra sits in the old gum tree
Eating all the gum drops he can see
Stop, Kookaburra! Stop, Kookaburra!
Leave some there for me.

This is my special lullabye...

The Kookaburra

The Kookaburra is about 45 cm (18 ins) long and weighs about .5 kg (1 lb). It has a square-like head and a rather large beak.

The Kookaburra is the worlds biggest kingfisher. They have a habit of sitting motionless on an exposed perch, watching for prey to be swooped upon and battered into submission before being swallowed. It eats large inscets, snakes, lizzards and small animals in Australian woodlands and forrests.

The Laughing Kookaburra has a very strange voice. They make a maniacal cackle... a laughing or chuckling call. Kookaburras can get rather noisy when arguing with each other over territorial boundaries. They have an average life span of over 20 years.
