INTRO:How these Shattered World Came To Be

It all started a few years ago, back in the day of sixth grade, around '93 or '94 with the founding of the original X-Calibur (notice the u) Comics with my friend Chris Richards who has since moved far away to Atlanta. Our symbol was a sword going through a bloody Spider-Man (or something) comic, and our motto: X-Calibur, we slay the other comic companies! Anyway, I wasn't a very good drawer so I picked up nearly all the writing chores while Chris did almost all the pencils, although we never actually finished a single issue until I came up with CyberNet (which we will talk about in a minute, don't worry). We were constantly coming up with great stories and issues (although we never wrote them down so most of them have dissapeared from my memory) and I have to say those are some of my favorite stories, so simple in their X-Men-like superhero teams, it was great. We had all kinds of titles, the only two that I remember though are VPP(Vice-President Protection, don't laugh it was good for 6th grade!) and their sister team, the all powerful MHP(Meta-Human Problems Division). I also remember making silly comics on his computer, like Dragon Boy and the Minority Justice Squad. Up until that point I had always drawn guys with sunglasses on (because I could not draw eyes) until one glorious day I discovered that I could draw eyes, Japanese Animation type eyes (although no one else saw the resemblance back then). Around this time Robotech had begun reairing Saturday mornings on the Sci-fi channel. I remembered the show from when I was a little kid back around '85 or '86, I dove back into it with a passion, reading the books, watching the show, buying merchandise, making my friends watch and so on. Chris finally decided I should draw and write my own book, and I knew exactly what I wanted it to be: Robotech. Except I couldn't use Robotech because it was licensed and copy-righted so I created a clone, CyberNet. The story went through hundreds of different versions until I found one different enough from Robotech,but still very similar, that I liked it. I completed 5 issues before I decided it was much too much like Robotech and decided to start over. In the years since then CyberNet has evolved and changed with me eventually becoming Shattered Worlds. And while you can still see a little of the Robotech heritage pop up every so often in the story, it is something totally different that what CyberNet was. And thus, Shattered Worlds become an original story, and a part of me, finally after all these years I feel content to restart the story and so I have. I have only one final thing to say: Thank you Chris, and thank you too Jeff Larson (Story screener and cover planner that you were) even though you moved to California without telling me until a month later!

THE STORY

This is actually the first page of every Shattered Worlds, the backstory:

ACT I : ORDER

As the human race pushed out into space, they began to see the need for permanent settlements. Using newly created terraforming techniques the humans created a colony on a small planet they named Utopia. On New Year's Eve, as the first settler set foot on the terraformed Utopia a new age began. 001 HE (Year of Human Expansion). Using Utopia as a base, humans explored more of their surrounding space. Eventually they encountered the advanced Nolock Empire (in 43 HE) which had fifteen colonies on as many worlds. Being taught a little of the Nolock technology, Earth science advanced greatly in a few years. With new terraforming techniques available, the humans established another colony on the planet Gaia (90 HE). Slowly Utopia was poisoned, heavy industry and mining destroyed all plant and animal life. Pollution slowly killed the planet. Resentment was wide spread throughout Utopia. Finally the Utopian Wars broke out in 135 HE. Utopia fought for independence, Earth fought to regain a valuable colony. Gaia remained neutral, occasionally selling weapons and troops. As the war drew to a close a new alien warrior race, the Dimercast, appeared. The Terran Alliance (The TA) was quickly formed in 143 HE to unite Earth, Gaia, and Utopia against the seven worlds of the Dimercast. Receiving help from the Nolocks, the Dimercast were easily beaten back that same year. It is now 150 HE and tensions run high. Strain has appeared between Utopia and Earth, the Dimercast have rebuilt their fleet, and the Nolocks have begun restricting human trade. It is into this scene that a new, mysterious race of invaders have appeared. Their motives unknown, their intentions even less clear, known to the humans only as the "Intron". Their true name: the Das'Khan.

ISSUES

SW1 Arrivals and Departures: The "Intron" cut off all communication to Earth, similar events have happened in both the Nolock and Dimercast Empires. A single "Intron" fighter attacked Gaia and destroyed nearly an entire TA fighter squadron. Protests and violent disturbances rocked Gaia as a result of the attack. The Nolocks announced they will officially close their borders within a week but have offered the TA assistance, although it will be small. Our heroes met for a get-together at !Viva Food! and were informed that Rob's brother, Skip, big military Colonel that he was, had been ordered on a recon mission to reestablish Earth's communication.

SW2 A Plan Of Defense Is Drafted: The TA's first encounter with a Das'Khan ship larger than a fighter. The enemy ship also releases Hunter-type humanoid mecha. And the gang learns they have been included in a Gaia planet wide military draft!
