CHARACTERS

Dan Riley

A refugee from corporate America at age 36, Dan finds a new home at The Renter’s Guide, a tiny innovative company matching renters and landlords. A short consulting assignment becomes a long-term partnership when he becomes CFO.

Meet the Partners ……

Bernie Peterson

Silver-haired founder, patriarch and majority shareholder of The Renter’s Guide, everyone likes this personable, energetic CEO. Only a bad ticker or a weekend racing accident stand in the way of achieving his vision of forty markets in five years.

Jim Chapelle

Tall, dark hair, ruddy complexion, handsome and athletic, Jim is an extraordinary salesman. Responsible for publishing a magazine and brokering apartment building sales, most of his cell phone calls are to re-schedule meetings he’s already late for.

Joanne Pauley

Attractive, warm, smart and tough, Joanne’s a quick study, advancing to the top in a male-dominated environment. Blond and tan with a perma-smile, most people think they recognize her from a tooth whitening commercial, even though she insists she has never been on TV for any reason.

Lisa Ebers

Every organization has its Lisa. They work long hours, but never seem to get anything done. They move from job to job, always replaced by someone more competent. Usually cantankerous, they hang on as utility players until they really screw up, or some guilty executive can no longer justify the luxury of their presence.

Terry Turner

At five-feet-five, what Terry lacks in height he makes up for with towering imagination. He imagines he will replace Bill Gates as the richest man in the world. As far as Terry is concerned, the only thing wrong with stealing is getting caught!

.…..And Others

Ed Barnum

The company’s only outside director, Ed waddles into meetings carrying a caffeine-filled mug which could easily keep Ecuador awake for a week. One of many FOB’s (friends of Bernie) he feeds at the corporate trough until greed becomes fraud.

Carey Haugen

A tall, dignified woman with wire-rimmed glasses, short gray hair, and gray business suit, she’s easily clocked as a CPA at fifty paces. When she asks for help, what she wants is a temp. What she gets is a new boss with the title she covets.

Jennifer Martin

Twenty-one with large doe-like brown eyes, softly curled brunette hair, and an adorable face, Jennifer is the wholesome girl next door every man dreams of taking home to meet the parents. Her worst physical flaw is a pair of thick eyebrows. Her worst liability is a mother who gambles. Her worst mistake is asking her boyfriend to hire her mother.

Bridget

More than a pretty face in a business suit, Bridget graduated at the top of her Ivy League class, then earned an MBA at night while climbing the executive ladder at her bank. Assigned as TRG’s loan officer, she becomes the CFO’s closest confidante and secret weapon.
