The Campfire

Friday evening was, of course, the campfire. I got a chance to take some photos near the MaroonBells before we started, but the sun itself was directly over the Bells themselves, making photos impossible.

I went early to help with some of the set up. Harold and Cathy were busy getting Kermit and the sign set up...

...then getting the burners going for hot chocolate, setting out the cooler with hot dogs and the other assorted snacks. PawJim and Mike Padget were busy wrapping the bales of hay in garbage bags and setting them around the firepit, and that is where I jumped in. Been a long time since I threw hay bales! LOL! Meanwhile, Dreux split the wood and got the fire going. I had some free time and took a few more pics...

Soon, more people began to arrive.

We all visited for a bit, then paused to listen to Patti Buser perform a song she wrote in tribute to John, October Aspens(click here for the lyrics). It was an absolutely beautiful song, Patti, thank you for sharing it. Harold then played a tape of the letter we recieved from the Australian Gathering, and Harold's letter to them.Go here to read the letters. We paused for a moment of silence, then sang Rocky Mountain High.

After that, the guitarists gathered near the fire and began to play. I can tell you, it was incredibly COLD!

But, the warmth of friendships forming, growing and being discovered made my soul warm. I stayed only till about 8:30, my poor toes were numb! The campfire only went on for about another hour or so, and the bitter cold got to everyone. All returned to town, and the good times continued in several places.
