        EPISODE GUIDE

               Episode # 24 -Face Off: (Part 3)

Yugi is down to his last turn against Kaiba. His next card would determine the outcome of the duel. Yugi takes a looks at it and smiles.  Everyone is surprised as Yugi says he had picked the best card out of his deck. Of course Kaiba doesn't believe him and Yami Yugi calls back his disk, places the card he just drew and sends it back out. Yami Yugi summons Kuriboh, weak level 1 monster with only 300 attack points!

Kaiba is in disbelief that Yugi sends such a weak monster out and in attack mode. He laughs saying Yugi's free to give up at anytime. In all of Duel Monsters, Kuriboh is the weakest monster in the game. It has never been used in a game before. Kaiba says that if  Yugi is using this card to make fun of this duel, then he won't forgive him. Yami Yugi tells Kaiba that he's mistaken, he will use Kuriboh to destroy the Ultimate Dragon.

Yami continues his turn by playing Multiply, which multiplies monsters with less than 500 attack power to an infinite number. The Kuriboh begin to multiply and soon there are many monster. Yami explains that he only has 300 attack power but that's not a reason to look down on it. You can turn the weakest monster into the strongest. Kaiba thinks that the Ultimate Dragon will destroy all of them and attacks with the dragon. The blast destroys many of the Kuriboh but not all of them and the ones that were destroyed are replaced with new ones. Yami Yugi explains that it is possible for all the Kuriboh to be destroyed and then his Life Points would go down to zero, but before that happens, he will use this other combo. Yami Yugi reveals his three hand cards to Kaiba, Mammoth Graveyard, Polymerization and the Living Arrow.

Yami Yugi explains that the Living Arrow can transfer magic to other monsters He will use the Polymerization card with the Mammoth Graveyard to fuse the Mammoth and Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon!  The three cards combine and Mammoth Graveyard comes out of the card and charges toward the Ultimate Dragon and then transforms to the Living Arrow card. When the arrow pierces the Ultimate Dragon, the dragon starts to screech and the head of Mammoth Graveyard appears on the chest of the dragon. Yami Yugi explains that Ultimate Dragon is an extremely powerful monster but its type is a light monster. When combined or fused with a dark monster, there is a mismatch. Due to the mismatch, the body will begin to melt! Indeed, the dragon is starting to melt already! Yami Yugi continues to explain that the attack power of Mammoth Graveyard is 1200. Since the fusion was a mismatch, Ultimate Dragon will lose 1200 from it's attack points on every turn. Ultimate Dragon's attack points is now at 3300. Yugi friends cheer for him, the game is now in his favor. Keith is impressed, too, with the turnaround as well and marvels at Yugi's ability.

Kaiba says that the duel is not over yet and again attacks the Kuriboh. Yami Yugi tells him it's useless. His monster cannot attack all of the Kuriboh, unless he can do that, he cant reduce his life points. Again, the destroyed Kuriboh are replaced and he draws his card and ends his turn. Since another turn has passed, the Ultimate Dragon is now at 2100. Kaiba knows that Yami Yugi will skip his next turn so he attack's again and again the Kuriboh replace themselves. Kaiba is in shock, its useless to attack and every time he does, the dragon loses attack power. Like he thought Yami Yugi skips his turn and says that he will not be able to survive when he attack. Ultimate Dragon is now at a pathetic 900. Kaiba is in disbelief, he is going to lose, again.

Kaiba thinks to himself, if he loses this battle, what will happen to Mokuba. Mokuba's voice comes out and you see Mokuba's body halfway inside of the Ultimate Dragon's melting body. Mokuba is calling to Kaiba to help him. The body is beginning to cover Mokuba and then a child Kaiba comes out of Kaiba's body. The real Kaiba can only just watch. Mokuba then gets sucked inside the body of the dragon and just as child Kaiba gets there, the body dissolves into a pile of red sludge. Kaiba looks at his hand and sees that it's beginning to melt just like the dragon just was. Young Kaiba turns to Kaiba and says why couldn't he help him, he could sacrifice his life but why couldn't he help him.

Kaiba comes out of his vision and can only think of Mokuba. Yami Yugi wonders why hasn't he done anything. Joey and Tristan wonder if he has given up. Yami Yugi decides to go on the attack, the Ultimate Dragon is very vulnerable now and he draws his card, the Celtic Guardian (L4 1400/1200). Yami Yugi attacks with his monster and it cuts away one of the heads of the Ultimate Dragon. But then everyone notices that the dragon is still alive. Yami Yugi figures that because its a fusion of three Blue Eyes White Dragons, each head has it's own attack power. Kaiba dropped from 900 to 400 Life Points. If Yami Yugi attacks again on the next turn, he will win. Kaiba sees this too and says that the game has begun. He stands at the edge of the roof and says that he shockwave from the attack could knock him off. It is Kaiba's wish to lose his life in a duel.

Tea tries to tell Kaiba to come down from there but Joey sees what he's up to, he's trying to do this so that Yugi will not attack. Kaiba only smiles but Bakura asks Joey what if he's serious. Tea thinks that the other Yugi has a fixed mind and would do anything for victory. Kaiba tells Yami Yugi that this next turn will tell his real value as a duelist. If Kaiba was Yugi, he would push his enemy to the bottom of this castle without a second though. But his turn is not over, he has to draw a card. He gets Monster Reborn and revives the head of the Blue Eyes that was just attacked. The head is revived with the attack power of the regular Blue Eyes White Dragon. Yami Yugi knows that it doesn't matter which monster is revived, since he still has Kuriboh, the attack cannot get through and damage his life points. If he attacks one of the weaker heads of the Ultimate Dragon he will win, but that marks the end of Kaiba's life as well.

Yami Yugi cannot decide. It shows a image of Yugi's grandfather crying for help. Then Yami Yugi comes to his decision... He can not loose! Tea sees immediately that this look is from the other Yugi, she believes that he will do anything to win, even run the risk of knocking Kaiba to the bottom of the castle. Yami Yugi attacks with the Celtic Guardian and the monster starts to charge toward the Ultimate Dragon. Tea begins to run toward Yami Yugi too. Tea calls out to the real Yugi and Yami Yugi falls to his knees and Yugi appears. The Celtic Guardian stops running and just stands there, halfway to the Ultimate Dragon. Kaiba simply says he wins and attacks with the Blue Eyes and destroys the Celtic Guardian, taking Yugi to 0 Life Points. Kaiba hops down from the edge of the castle. Yugi has tears in his eyes.

Kemo is on the horn to Pegasus, informing him that Kaiba beat Yugi. Pegasus says he knows and Kemo asks if Kaiba can enter the castle now and Pegasus lets him in. Pegasus congratulates Kaiba, he can now fulfill his desire to duel him in a Game of Darkness.

Back to Yugi and Kaiba, Keith is watching from his perch and wonders why Yugi didn't finish the duel. Yugi's friends rush over to him and Yugi says if he couldn't stop himself, Kaiba mught have died. Everyone realizes that Yugi gave up the duel to save Kaiba. Yugi says he's really scared of his other self. Tea, tears in her eyes too, apologizes to Yugi and says that he did do the right thing. Kaiba speaks his piece and says that in the end, he was able to see Yugi's cowardice. If he was cold- blooded and dared to call his dare, he would have won. His stupidness makes him unworthy as a duelist. Tea steps up and says that Kaiba is flat wrong, she thinks that Kaiba is the one that has lost. She explains that he had planned to give up his most important card, his Life Card, but he lost. He doesn't have the courage to face himself. No matter what, you should always protect your life card, that is real courage. In the end, Yugi protected his Life Card For Kaiba. Kaiba has nothing to say to this, he takes his 10 star chips and leaves. He places his star chips into the door and it allows him to enter the castle. He's coming for Pegasus.

(NOTE: In the Japanese version, Kaiba threatened to jump off if Yugi attacked.)

Episode Review (1-10): 9.2  Kaiba shows himself when he shows that he would rather die than loose to Yugi.  He will do anything to duel Pegasus for his brothers soul.  There was a lot of character development and awesome dueling.  This is one of the best episodes ever.
