In 1886, Henry opened a sawmill, sold lumber, and repaired machinery. In 1887, he married a neighboring farmer's daughter, Clara Bryant and they had one son, Edsel. They built a house and here Henry tried to build a steam plow. Some time later, he made a steam-powered tractor with a single cylinder engine. In 1893, he developed his own automobile, and not many years later, he founded the Ford Motor Company.
