FieryHaven's
Guide For New Terrans
Here I will give step by step
instructions for newbie Terrans to get to a good start.
-
The Lingo:
-
Infra =
Infrastructure Commonly, infrastructure are the buildings you build on planets.
-
Ag = Agriculture Agriculture
research increases the amount of food and raw material produced per turn by
each ag infrastructure.
-
Ind = Industry Industry works by
converting raw materials into consumer goods. Industry research increases the
efficiency of your industry infrastructure. The more efficient it is, the more
goods you will get per raw material.
-
Comm = Commercial Commercial is
simply a per turn money maker.
-
Pop = Population Population does
your work. You require population to build infrastructure, pay taxes, and buy
consumer goods.
-
Min = Mining Mining
infrastructure ONLY affects the speed at which the ore is derived from a
planet. Mining infrastructure research affects ore extraction and mineral
generation.
*NOTE*
If you are going to do the missions quickly, when you read the instructions,
research 20 commercial before doing the ag or housing research.
*NOTE*
If you decide to use this *guide*, please read each step in its entirety BEFORE
you begin doing what it says.

1.
Go to the Manage Colonies screen and click on your
one planet, your home world.

2.
This is where your choices begin. If you look in the Help & Manual section
of the Spacefed site, you will see that Terrans have +30% in ag. This means
that Terrans produce more food per ag infrastructure than other races do. Their
comm modifier is at 0, so they make normal with no penalties. Now, you have 3
good choices: A. You can build comm only. The advantage of this is that for
one, you can put all your research into one thing. Also, with commercial, you
will have a steady income. B. You can choose to build only ag. Here, again, you
will only have to research 1 thing. Also, since they have a +30% modifier in it
already, they will make more of this than other races, thus being the most
lucrative of their exploits. The disadvantage of this is that in order to make
money, you must sell the food on the market. You will have to wait for you
money this way, though you will make more. Obviously, it also depends on how
much you sell the food for. (This method is annoying because to complete the
missions, you must research to 20 commericial, thus inhibiting your
money-making possibilites. With this, you could reverse the below, and build
3/4 ag and 1/4 comm... After the intial 20, I wouldn't suggest researching any
more of it.) C. You can choose to do a little of both. If this is your choice,
build about 3/4 comm and 1/4 ag. So, for every 3 comm infrastructure you have,
build 1 ag. The same goes in the research. For every 3 point you put into comm,
put 1 in ag.

3.
Now, your home planet should have 500 land. Each
housing infrastructure raises your max pop by 10. First, demolish the
infrastructure you will not need, except the mining. If you decide to build
comm only, demolish the industry. For now, whether you're going to use it or
not, keep the ag because otherwise, you will have to buy food. At this point,
you're too poor to do that. So, destroy the ind. Put 4 on mining, and divide
the rest among housing, comm, and ag as you see fit. The planet should start
with 20 housing, but do not put more than 5 more on it. Read ahead to
understand why. If you do not have enough available labor, go to the research
page and research 10 housing. No matter what race you are, 10 housing will help
you. Each housing level gives 1 more person to each housing infrastructure. In
other words, at level 1 housing research, housing infrastructure holds 11
people. At level 2, it holds 12, etc. So, at level 10, it will hold 20 pop,
thus halving the amount of houses you need to fill up a planet. Then, go back
to your planet and build more ag and/or comm. Mining infrastructure ONLY mines
the ore on a planet. When the ore runs out, demolish the mining infrastructure,
and use the freed up labor to build more ag and/or comm. This will get you on
your way.

4.
After you believe you have your research to an
appropriate level, and you have done the missions you choose to, next research
your ships. Also, do not forget to research the Colony Cluster Level 1.
Eventually, you will get to the scouts. For Terrans, these are Viator's and
Viator II's. Build a few of these at the Build Ships page, and go to the
explore page. Now, when you explore, you're looking for the biggest planets
possible. Size does matter in this game. The more planets you have, the harder
it is to get new ones. So, if you only keep the best ones, you stand to make
much more money. If you come across planets with lots of ore, say 500 ore more,
get them, use a few turns by researching or exploring, and put some more mining
on them to get the ore out faster. Use more turns, then when the ore is gone,
plunder it. On non-paid accounts, only keep planets that are 700 land or above
to cluster. If paid, only keep 800's or above. If you come across an U.
Fertile, and you're using ag, build lots on it. Both forests and U. Fertiles
have bonuses to ag production on them.

5.
When you get 5 planets that you wish to keep (only
planets that do not have a U. in front of them; these are Ultra class planets
and can't be clustered), have them in order at the bottom of your colony page.
U. Class planets between them won't matter, and nor will other clusters. Just
make sure there aren't any other normal planets below the 5 or between them. Go
to the Projects page and click on Colony Cluster Level 1. It will ask for
confirmation, and what mineral you want the colony to generate. Minerals are
generated no matter what. They do not require mining infrastructure to work.
When you later get 5 C1's, you can research the Colony Cluster Level 2, and
cluster the 5 C1's into C2's. This is how you save colony space, since you are
only allowed to have 15 colonies apart from your home world.

For fighting, you will just have to learn. :-P

Common Questions:
-
Q. "What is the
max infrastructure research?"
A. The max is 255 total. This means if you have 20
on commerical, you can have a total of 235 on the
other techs, divided up as you see fit (which includes some at zero).
-
-
Q. "What is the
Kalzul (or it might be Unknown) Alien Artifact?"
A. It is the Ultimate Weapon, or UW. The Ultimate
Weapon is a bomb that destroys 90% of everyone's credits, raw material, food,
ore, consumer goods, and fleet. It only destroys 67% of a fed members stuff.
