Steve Wilson In Show Biz

It seems show business chose Steve at birth. He began playing cowboy and writing country & western songs and making his own background music at an early age.By the time he was ten, he was already sending off song lyrics to Nashville. He organized a doo-wop group in high school and later sang with several doo-wop groups while serving with the armed forces in Europe.

Steve Becomes A Oriole

Upon his release from the army, Steve moved into the Los Angeles neighborhood which housed the famous 5-4 Ballroom which was the mecca for the R&B scene during the late 5O's. He sang in the many talent shows around town including Johnny Otis famous show until he got his big chance to join Sonny Til's group, the Orioles. His stint with the Orioles didn't last very long for Sonny had a habit of breaking up and forming new groups.

The Blues Comes Home To Roost

While living in Chicago during the early 6O's and delivering mail in the Maxwell street area, Steve was suddenly struck with the blues. He had heard the blues all while he was growing up for his father was bluesman Pepper Wilson, who sang it daily, but Steve had never understood this "grown folk's music" as the teenagers referred to it. There in Chicago around the blues greats, walking the back streets around Roosevelt Road and Maxwell Street, it all became plain and he knew he had to play and sing the blues. He first learned to play bass guitar and later learned piano, harmonica and rhythym guitar. Moving to Hollywood in the late 6O's he launched a career both in acting and music and appeared in many TV shows and movies while releasing three albums and forming his own record company, Goldtown Records. "I won't be satisfied until Goldtown is equal to Puff Daddy's and Master P's labels," declares Steve.
