Jessica, our beloved Golden Retriver
|
Jessica was a young golden retriever who shared our
lives for a short but extremely happy period.
We took her from her parents at the age of 8 weeks,
which is an ideal age for separation a puppy from its mother.
At this age a puppy has already learned the most important things
a dog needs to know.

Our Jessie came from a litter of 6 puppies.
The first time I laid my eyes on her I just knew
she is going to be mine.
And I really believe that she felt the same way.
She was amazingly smart and learnt many things every day.
She loved to play and enjoyed the company of our 2 cats and
2 dogs. They all used to play together and it was so
funny and amazing to watch them.
|
Everybody loved Jessie. She always brought a smile to everyone.
It is still so very hard for me to write about her in the past tense. She stayed with us for such a short time, yet it seemed very long at the time. We felt like we have known her all our lives. So it is not so hard to guess how we felt after the accident.

One sunny day after travailing with us all day long,
we let her run with the other dogs in the grass outside our house.
Since we live in the country most of the dogs are free
to come and go as they please.
People know they need to drive slowly and carefully.
We ate a late lunch when my mother came running and shouting
with poor little Jessie in her hands. Foam came out of her mouse
and she looked terrible. Since it was Friday and vets don't
work after the "Sabbath" starts it took us quit a long time
to find one. And then it was a 45 minutes drive to his home.
All the way there we were helpless, we didn't even know if
she will live the next minute or not. Finally we got there
and the vet didn't find anything really.
She had all the regular symptoms of shock but he didn't
find any major problem. Retrospectively speaking, we should
have let her go there and then. But we didn't want to believe
it and we tried helping her all we could.
The next three days were a living hell when one of us had to be
with her at all times. We took shifts and swap between us,
but it was so horrible. You, the reader should see the tears
running down my face to know how I felt and still feel.
I had dogs before but it was never like this. She was so young
and innocent. She was my sunshine and I loved her like my only
child. It feels so unfair that she is no longer here.
What about the car that ran over her, you might ask?
Well the driver is such a heartless, coward that I don't
wish to say too much about him.
However this I will say: if you ran over a dog
in the road at least have the decency to stop the car
and try to help him. When you hurt someone you hurt
his family and it doesn't matter if that someone walks
on four or maybe two.
