Kickin It Old School
The band started out with Ryan Gillis and Mike Adams just jamming together on their acoustic guitars. Ryan had only been playing guitar for a year and Mike played bass but easily picked up guitar in a few months. They made a few songs together during the summer of 2001. At the time they started playing together ,Brian Moriarty, the bassist, was in another band called Ready To Fall. His band was on the verge of breaking up so they began to talk with him about Ryan and Mike becoming a serious band and adding a bassist and drummer. About a week later Ready to Fall broke up and Brian was the obvious choice for a bassist. They finally decided to make their jam sessions a little more serious. The three guitarists practice a few times before the addition of their drummer Pat. Mike was the only one who knew Pat but he knew he played drums so they all went to check out what he could do. To their surprise he was actually quite the little drummer. They then asked him to join the band and OST was on their way. They had their first actual practice in December of 2002. They were all skeptical about the band at first because of their different tastes in music. Brian was coming out of a hardcore band and listened to mostly metal music. Pat had played in a pop punk band but only liked to play fast and that wasn’t what the acoustic band needed. Also considering the fact that the two guitarists had only been playing guitar for about a year each they were all a little worried. The first few practices went well but nothing to impressing came out of them. They still had no singer. They were on the search trying to find someone who was really good. Not only were they singer less but the band didn’t have a name. They had a few different names, the first one being THE GAME..(The Gillis Adams Moriarty Experiment). They didn’t want to use this name because they felt they were leaving out Pat. They also considered the names “Even Poulin Cries” and “Aidsface”. One day Ryan gave out the idea of On Second Thought. The band liked it so they decided to stick with it. They had three songs now and decided to go into the studio to record a demo. They figured that they could have Ryan sing for now and just have something to let people know how we sound, hoping it would make it easier to find a singer. The first demo came out pretty good. It went over well with a lot of people. They already began to create a fan base. They were still looking for a singer and writing new songs. As the months passed Ryans singing got better and better and started to work really well with the style of music they were playing. Mike was also putting in good harmonies in many of the songs. It was then they decided to just use Ryan as the lead vocalist and Mike as back up. They then went to record another demo at Guilty Dog Studios. This demo came out much better than the first one. They got more fans from this demo than they did from the first. They decided to actually get serious about the band, finally realizing they got something really good and that all of their talents meshed together well. On Second Thought has a lot ahead of them, including their first full length due out October of 2003. They’re becoming more and more serious everyday and determined to make every song better than the last. They are growing as a band and don’t plan to stop anytime soon.
