I commit myself to respect for all cultures that in turn respect inalienable human rights.

Being a Newpy does not mean joining an exclusive club. Commitment to the articles does not mean abandoning other deeply held convictions. The true Muslim or Christian can also be a true Newpy and vice-versa.  However, being a Newpy does mean rejecting the hypocrisy or ignorance of aspects of traditional cultures which directly clash with basic human rights. The Newpy is not a true relativist. Respect for other cultures means rejoicing in the diversity of our humanity; it does not mean selectively turning a blind eye to human rights abuses when condemning them happens to clash with our perceived national interests. Practices such as genital mutilation can never be tolerated as “just part of their culture”, nor can any other abuse of basic human rights in whatever culture it shows itself.
