Better looking Greddy Type S bov
* Now whenever someone sneezes, after I say “Bless you” I think, “Gee, that sounds like my blow off valve at low boost.”
* To help conceptualize why earthquakes exist, I thought of the earth as this green and blue thing with a blow off valve letting off excess pressure.
* Before, I was afraid of boosting up hard because I was afraid my stock bov was leaking, actually only the pipe has a leak, but now, I’m no longer afraid. What I am scared of is sudden decceleration because that means my car might die out and leave me looking stupid. I mean, an automatic dying out? So far that has only happened to me eight times. Five times while letting of the gas while going uphill. Once when I was cruising in neutral down 14th ave. Another time I made a sharp left turn and then had ot let off the accelerator hella quick because of a stupid double parker. Another time was when I was going into Stoneridge mall and there was a dip in the road, after I cleared that, my car died.
* The reason why my car kept dying, was that the spring on top of the bov that lets you adjust its tension was too loose, and although I got a cool whistle sound letting go of the throttle even while not boosting, I kept on dying out a lot. Boost Leak" is what they call it. So I had a dilemma, sound cool time or continually have to restart my car. Choices. Coupled with the car's inherrant quiet humming sound, I was always paranoid thinking that the car died while at a complete stop, especially while uphill. The reason being that the Greddy bov isn't twin chambered or compartmentized like the ones from Blitz, HKS or Apex, so it is prone to this problem.
* Sometimes when I’m walking by myself and no one is around, I make little, “whoosh” sounds depending on how fast I walk.
* I don’t know if there’s any correlation to buying the Greddy bov, but do I tend to fart more often now.
* Passing cars is now an artform. I never had so much mid to high end torque in a car before. The trick here is that I make sure to let go of the gas just when I’m cutting in front of them so that it goes, “whoosh.” The good thing with the Greddy Type S bov is that the pitch and sound of it changes depending on what’s your rpm and whether you’re under low or high boost. So I boost up hard creeping up on him, and right when he's just putting it all together, my car has just passed him up and gone “whoosh.” Diabolical.
* The only thing that got me excited in “The Fast and The Furious” was when I realized that the green Eclipse had the same kind of bov as I do. I never heard my bov outside my car. I mean, I’ve heard other cars with my kind of bov, but this time I knew what it was all about to be intimidated. In surround sound. What didn't excite me was hearing all the other cars in the movie using the HKS super sequential bovs (Orange Supra and the truck jacking Civic’s).
* For a while my hood wouldn’t close right because I angled the bov too far up trying to maximize the sound. But I fixed that. I also tried finding that K&N filer extension that would go over the bov so that it would look like the Blitz bov, but I never found it. I also had this grand idea of hooking up a pool whistle to the end of the horn to give it an extra boost of sound. But then I realized that that was too fake like silicone breasts. Robert Pina used to put his bov in the stock foglights position so that the sound would be super loud, but that is a little too extreme for me.
* I now have something to show off underneath my hood besides my zip tie battery tie down.
* Blowing off on purpose sucks with an automatic transmission. If I try to do it on purpose, I just end up looking slow. The trick is to accelerate up to someone slower in front of you then go "whoosh" so that it looks like the guy in front is in your way of boosting. Also, at first I was puzzled when I didn't hear the "whooshes" in between shifts under full acceleration like the way those cars with manual transmissions do it. Then I remembered that they have to let go of the accelerator to shift when I don't have to. H-E double hamburgers yeah.
new* Back when I was younger, I had no idea what was that "whoosh" sound coming out of those MR2's in Chinatown. One theory stated that that sound only came out when they braked. That didn't seem convincing enough to me back then. I remember one day I was playing basketball and was watching all the cars pass by because it was one of those lazy summer afternoon type of games and I saw this white or gray MR2 stop at the red light before making a right turn; then while exiting the turn, it made the trademark blow off valve noise. From then on, I thought that all MR2's only made that "whoosh" sound when they did a right turn. Honestly, I kept that theory to myself up until a few years ago when I started reading "Super Street" and just hanging out with people who liked talking about cars before I realized how wrong I was.
* I leave everyone reading this in their pajamas this word of advice, if you have a turbo car and you don't have a loud blow off valve, go get one. What are you waiting for? For all you know, it might change your life too.

Ugly stock blow off valve
6-28-02... Changed bov pics a bit. Also added more pics to first, second and third Supra page.
5-11-02... Added Greddy bov pics I "borrowed" from ebay. There's an annoying ticking sound from my steering column that goes on and off but it seems like it only happens after I go into a turn. It must sound very annoying from the outside.
4-11-02... On 3/16, installed Panasonic CQ-DP171U mp3 player. I don't even hear the outside world anymore. And recently on 4/5, installed chromed out Greddy oil cap. Both bought from ebay.
3-14-02...Got pissed off on 3/05, so took my car down to the shop to install the new power steering pump. The job took them four hours to do. It now turns as smooth as my bro's '96 civic, there is also none of that cranking noise I once heard everytime I turned the steering wheel. On the outside the sound was even worse.
2-24-02...My brother finally checked out my car and told me "yep, you need a new pump". I am sad because I've been driving the 106hp inline four Jeep this past week. And now I need to add coolant.
2-15-02... My power steering pump broke pulling into Cal State Hayward's parking lot. I am sad.
2-03-02... Dropped in "K&N" drop in filter for the Ma71. I write about it on my Apartment 107 page. It says "Installed K&N drop in filter. I now hear my car when it is idling. It is a soft humming sound that I never could have appreciated until now. "
12-27-01... After a week of having the "HKS type 0" turbo timer doing nothing around my house, I finally got it installed. Oddly enough, the person that sold me the Supra installed it for me because anything electrical frightens me ever since 5th grade when my classmates would stick paper clips into electrical sockets.
Just getting the Supra was pretty life shattering as it is. But once I got a blow off valve, all these weird things started happening. (Thank you suprasport.com for selling me the bov and for putting up with my annoying questions)

Actual picture of my Supra. Not a facsimile or replica or model to demonstrate a point.
First picture of the Supra taken by me around December 2001.
The house on the far right is Danny's, so hey neighbor.
