Back to the Land of Thai

Wat Po is a must see if you ever get to Bangkok. You can easily spend several hours there walking through building after building and just sitting in the shady places that are provided almost everywhere. The sun is something that you have to pay attention to in the Land of Thai.

A Thai massage is something that people should try, at least once. Wat Po has two massage schools and the cost is reasonable. I am personally not into having my joints and muscles altered but Diane seemed to survive.

The Imperial Palace

Everywhere you look there is gold

Murals denoting Thai history are beautiful and in excellent condition.

A person could easily spend hours here examining the artwork.

The architecture is also magnificent.

The New Guard and The Old

Heading East

Diane and I spent three days in Kanchaburi. On the first day we went to the museum. It was an eye-opener for many. Knowing a bit about the history behind it helped a lot but I swear that the bridge was huge in the movie and that the one I saw was a replica and not the original.

We spent a few hours looking at the Three Pagodas Pass. There really wasn't that much to see there of any real interest. The crossing over to Myanmar was basically only for shopping and we both passed on that.

The place we stayed at when we were in the area of the Three Pagoda's Pass was called P's Guest House. It was a great place even if the washrooms were located in a different building. A small white dog used to have a nap on our front forch and the view of the lake and landscaping were very easy on the eyes.

To Ko Chang And Then Back To Bangkok

Thailand's islands are as diverse as the land itself. Ko Chang was rather undeveloped when we went there (read: No internet places), People mainly went there for the beaches. Unfortunately, I have never been one for sitting on a beach. I tend to get a burn a bit too easily. Before heading there I thought I would be able to explore the interior of the island. This would not be the case. Upon checking in at the beach bungalows where we were staying I saw this poster of poisonous snakes. Those that were present on the island were circled, There were far too many circles and the snakes won. I decided to take up another past-time, that of laying in a hammock, overcoming nausea and reading.

The first picture above is of the hut that Diane and I stayed in. I would definitely suggest that people try this if only one time. It is certainly an experience. There was also a small convenience store down the road from where we stayed. I couldn't resist taking this picture. The mother cat had found the best place in the entire building for ventilation. Cats are smart creatures.

View of the beach during the day and at sunset.

Back in Bangkok

Most people who know me are fully aware that I have a twisted sense of humor at times. These phallic symbols are located in a small, out of the way, shrine area. I have been there several times. If you were wondering they deal with fertility. Needless to say I did not touch ANYTHING.

This was the year that I also developed My Cheshire Smile.
