What can I say? The Japanese are very creative people. The first time I recognized Anime as separate style of animation was with Pokemon, but my interest drove me to find much better and more mature examples. It was after discovering Inuyasha that I finally decided to look for the "comic books" they came from, the Manga. The first thing I found was Shonen Jump magazine, and I soon had a whole new appreciation for comics. Now, having had the opportunity to compare Manga with the Anime it becomes, I can honestly say TV and movies leave much to be desired. Currently I am experiencing the FullMetal Alchemist series. I have read the first four Manga graphic novels, and have just started the first full-fledged novel, "The Land of Sand". I've also seen a considerable amount of the animated series through internet downloads, almost all of the first 51 episodes. From what happens in episode 51, either that's the end of the series, or the story changes drastically from that point. I don't which possibility I prefer, they both look pretty terrible for a series I've come to love, but if anyone out there has any answers, I'm all ears. I may look it up myself one day, or maybe I'll come across an episode after 51, and I'll have the answer myself. Oh, and I've recently acquired a nice chunk of the Naruto episodes, starting in the 30's. I dunno if I'll be interested in this one, though I think the hero is an incredible character. I think Robert (younger bro) will enjoy this one more than I do. |
