Decisions

I admit that sometimes I have trouble making even the smallest decisions on my own. Sometimes, I need to ask everyone I know, get their opinion, think about what they said, and figure out what I really want. This is your chance to tell me what you think. My most recent dilemma is... Glasses... or not... or... ?

I already have glasses. I used to hate wearing them. I got them for the first time in sixth grade and wouldn't wear them regularly for almost six years, which was dumb because I am really blind.
But... that goofy looking chick to the right, is Marilyn Monroe. And I remember the last time I had to go without my glasses. They broke and I had to wait a week for a new pair. Everywhere I went people thought I looked great. (I had to lean forward pretty close to see myself in a mirror, but they thought that I looked great. The funniest thing about it was the vast majority of my friends didn't even realize that it was my glasses that were missing. Most people said things like, "Wow, you look really great! Did you do something different to your hair?" or "You should wear that shirt more often!" And I didn't make any changes to my usual wardrobe at that time, which makes me think that people don't really notice much about my face, let alone the fact that I wear glasses. Epitome Girl has a lot to say on the subject of glasses (she also uses pictures of Monroe in the film "How to Marry a Millionaire") and I've included a link to her site in my blog.
Why am I thinking of getting contacts? Vanity - pure vanity. There isn't really much more to it. I guess that in some ways they are practical. Like I said, I am pretty blind. This makes certain activities that you can't do with glasses difficult, like going swimming with my friends and family. I get so insecure and nervous when I can't see and that makes me less inclined to want to do those things. But vanity still plays a pretty big part of it. I always hate wearing glasses on Halloween, because my costume has to look alright with glasses. Usually, if I am getting dressed up to go out in the evening, I don't mind wearing glasses, but sometimes I will do a spectacular job with make-up and little sparkling things on my cheeks that just don't seem to stand out as much when I put my glasses on. The biggest reason that I am scared of getting contacts is that I have never had them before. I am not squeamish about sticking my finger in my eye to put them on. During those years that I refused to wear my glasses outside of a classroom, I spent many mornings poking myself in the eye and pretending I was putting contacts on. I would be really thrilled to have a pair of contacts, but so dissappointed if I bought them and was allergic to the cleaning solution or something. It would be rather devastating actually. I think I am more likely than other people to react to contacts too, since I already have so many other alergies.
This would be cool, like Superman and Clark Kent cool, and it seems like a practical solution. I could go to the eye doctor, get a new prescription, and buy a new set of frames at the same time as I get my first pair of contacts. There is only one problem. As I think I have mentioned in other places on this site, I don't have any money. I'd have to save up and really, really, really, treat myself, if I was ever going to do such a thing. Well, I don't know what to do, so it is time for you to tell me what you think.
