A very effective and nearly priceless method of becoming more independent of fossil fuels would be: making and producing "private" energy. The extraction of Solar Energy, which is a brilliant and recent invention has already lead many households all around the globe to produce their own electricity and heating. Solar Panels can be used to extract energy directly from the sun and transform it into either electricity or heat energy. [For further detail on solar energy please refer to the Solar Energy section under the Alternative Energy heading.] If households would entirely rely on electric and heat energy from alternative sources of energy, society would be one gigantic step closer to the total disuse of fossil fuels. There are several problems that need desperate regarding: nearly all alternative sources of energy are not yet fully efficient and cannot always operate full capacities. All of these problems are listed in the Alternative sources of energy section. Local communities such as towns or districts could set up one or several alternative sources of energy to power and heat their houses. Actions like these can be associated with homo faber and community service. For example: If each inhabitant of a town would donate a certain amount of money for the construction of a "Solar Panel Farm" on the outskirts of the town, it would reduce energy and heating costs for each inhabitant, as well as the fact that they are contributing to the health and environment of practically all living organisms on earth by reducing the amount of fossil fuels used. The huge problem with transportation pollution still remains, and scientist all over the world are researching new and safe ways of operating road vehicles without polluting the earth. 

Conclusion:

This project is very relative to most MYP central areas. It deals very closely with the environment and why it is damaged, and how it can be helped. Homo Faber is another area that is primarily dealt with in this project since it is only homo faber that can help humanity save the planet that it is destroying and contribute to the health of all citizens. In the above essay, one can see that community service can also be an significant factor when contributing to the independence of fossil fuels as a local community.
