Introduction In our Introduction to Robotics Course, we will use this Web Quest to gain some familiarity in the technical terms used in Robotics as well as the current commerical, industry and home applications of Robotics. Let Rainer the Robot inspire you in your exploration. For the next step go to the Tasks section.

Tasks Step 1 Visit the Google Directory of Robotics. Pick out a website and read through the content. Prepare to share it in class. Write a two to three paragraph journal on the importance of this website to the study of Robotics. Step 2 View U.S. education institutions involved in Robotics research. Robotics Group at Columbia University,and Carnegie Mellon University Biorobotics Lab. Pick one research from these educational institutions and write a one page summary. What is the significant of the research you have chosen for the U.S. economy. Step 3 Internationally, institutions such as the Oxford University in England, Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and University of Manchester Robotics Lab in the UK. Pick one research from these educational institutions and write a one page summary. What is the significant of the research you have chosen for the European economy. Step 4 Explore the U.S. Government use of Robotics.U.S. NASA, Mars Rover Project of the Jet Propulsion Lab and U.S. Navy (Space and Naval War Systems). Pick one research from these educational institutions and write a one page summary. What is the significant of the research you have chosen for the U.S. security and future military applications? Step 5 Visit the Robot Store. Identify two robot systems that you would like to purchase and compare and contrast your two choices in your journal. Which one do you ultimately recommend?

Processes At the end of Step 5, you will have five entries in your journal. This will have to be typed double spaced and handed in class on the third meeting.

Evaluation I will evaluate your journal using Rubric 1 which is a writing scoring tool. The two other Rubrics are for future projects we will do in class. | Conclusion This webquest will take about 3- 4 days to complete. Please be dilegent in completing this assignment. Late submissions are not accepted except for a valid emergency.
