Dan's Editorial

During the break between magazines, I've personally
relocated from Boston to Philadelphia. It's interesting
the cultural differences that jump out at you. Mainly,
you see it in the pedestrians. People in Boston walk out
into the middle of the street without looking and wait to see
what sort of neat stuff happens when the breaks start
squealing. In Philadelphia, on the other hand people already
halfway down the crosswalk, sort of stop and gaze
suspiciously at oncoming traffic like an untrusting kitten.
It makes you pretty certain that the majority of human
behavior comes about because it's what someone
could get away with at the time, and everyone else
has just been copying it since.

I was reading an article in the Wall Street Journal
The other day that considered the fact most books training
someone to become a manager failed because they were based on
the premise a business was a bunch of people trying to get
as much work done as quickly and effeciently as they could.
When in reality its the Lord of the Flies with people asserting dominance where
they can and designing vast heiarchys to avoid the hard work.
So, try something new one of these days, you might start a traditon,
and once somethings tradition, it has power.
