Essays

Welcome to my Essay section. While updating my website, I realized how much of a waste it would be to throw away these works. I worked very hard on them all. However, in putting them up, I do want to clarigy a few things about them.

Please don't get offended by anything written in them. Most of them were assignments that I had to do for a grade when I was in High School. The Childbirth essay being a good example. Please don't send me flames or get nasty with me because you, for instance, think hospital births are better or whathaveyou. I had to write what I had to write.

Please do not ask me to correct anything on these essays. They are only copied here to share what I've written. They've already been graded or completed. If I changed anything in them, then they would NOT be the exact essays that were graded by my teachers. This is what was graded.

I'm not in High School anymore. I graduated in 2000. But, I still like to read and research. So, there may be a few essays here that may not be set up like my other essays. The Jack Frost page being a good example. That was not a school essay but it was something *I* wanted to know...and share.

I don't claim to be an expert in ANY of the topics listed below. None of them are part of my career path. They are any of the following:

A. Assigned to me by my teachers in school. Therefore I had no choice what the topic was.

B. An assignment which I chose the topic to write on. The circumstances for those essays are of course varied depending on assignment and teacher.

C. It was something that I wanted to know or something that interested me. So I researched it and jotted down my findings.

D. Something I took interest in and discussed on mailing lists or chat rooms or Instant Msgs with friends. These ones, however, are not exactly....fact. Actually those in this catagory are the silly attempts of myself and my friends to explain things that may have no REAL {non-fiction} explanation. Usually falls under cartoons...yeah I still like cartoons! Got a problem? ^_^

Anything under the C and D catagory is perhaps the most controversial since I don't have teachers to grade and look over it for me. But, the info I find may be interesting and helpful to those who read it.

By the way, those who have been to the original Akhetaten's Gates will remember these essays. Hopefully some day soon I'll add more.

Also, sorry for the mix-match of graphics. I have trouble following a norm. LOL. I like to be a little odd sometimes.

The Effects of Marfan Syndrome

This essay was assigned in my Expository Writing Class. I took this class during my senior year and was awarded college credit. You don't care about that though. Anyway, our teacher assigned us an essay assignment explaining the effects of....something. We got to choose that something. At the time, I was huge on Akhenaten {who inspired me to create Akhetaten's Gates in the first place}. So, I chose a topic which is associated with him....Marfan Syndrome. Got a good grade on this one. She was actually impressed. By the way, don't ask why Pink Panther is suddenly acting as mascot.

Embalming

Another senior essay. This is part of my Senior Exit Project, which is required to graduate. This was actually a LOT of fun to do. We had to choose a topic where we could find a mentor to teach us a specific art or topic. I was so into ancient Egypt and wanted to do Mummification. But, I live in a small town. No go. So, I chose the next best thing: Embalming on a whole. I was able to talk to some fine morticians about their art. The physical part of the project, I created a statue of Anubis, the god of embalming in ancient Egypt {Anpu}. I recieved a VERY good grade on this and a lot of extra praise from my mentor during the presentation, who came to give me support as I was being judged by three judges. Anyway, the Senior Exit Project is HUGE with many parts...this essay was just a part of it. I'm very proud of it.

The Kwakiutl Indians

Something from my Sophmore year. In my Geography class, we were assigned to write an essay on Native Americans. We were given a list of tribes to choose from. I WANTED the Mayan or Inca tribes but they were already taken by the time it was my turn. Kwakiutl was the ONLY Native American tribe left to do...and finding info in our library was difficult. Nevertheless, I did make a good grade on this assignment. Not as flashy as some of the other stuff.

Childbirth: Hospital or Home birth?

Another assignment from my Expository Writing class. We had to write an argumentive essay. But we were free to choose the topic. But, I wanted a topic no one else in the class had. Plus, I didn't want to touch topics involving abortion or prayer in school or...that that there. I wanted something moreso informative and interesting instead of heated. I love watching A Baby Story on TLC, so childbirth was certainly something to look into. But, I had to choose what it was I was going to argue against. The only thing I could think of was hospital....or at-home? Mind you, I am not saying one IS absolutely better than the other...it was for the sake of the grade, but the information provided was collected from actual sources. Another one that my teacher liked.

Jack Frost?

This one was done outside of school. I took a sudden interest in the Jack Frost myth. However, information was almost impossible to find! It took 3 months of non-stop research to find even the little itty bit that I have. I had hopes of expanding the research to add another piece to the work. We'll see. For now, this works, and it was a lot of fun to see 3 months of hard work pay off.
