Grand Rapids now has an airsoft team! Good times!
Team G.R.A.S. (Grand Rapids Airsoft)
Alright, so it has been here for about a year. And what a year it has
been. We're putting together a worth while team. AEG's are a little scarce
though, but we've been working around that. I've had my entire gun
disassembled, and many fun upgrades. We've been playing in our heavily
(and we mean heavy!) wooded field a lot more. Time is harder to come by
than anticipated, between work and ankle injuries. We play none the less
though, so drop us a line if you're in the area and we'll try to set
something up. If you have any questions about anything I can try to field
them, I'll probably be able to help you. Yea yea...
April 3, 2005
 | Out for the first time this year! Weather was great, nice and sunny
and warm. Only 3 of us made it: Jared, Brandon, and myself. We made the
best of the lack of people. I left all my camo up at school, it'll come
home next time. We started the day out with a little hunt the sniper.
Jay and Brando found me without too much difficulty, It got a little
more interesting after that. I was stuck between Brandon and Jared,
Brandon was taking his sweet time moving in, and there was a giant tree
between Jared and me. I kind of knew where he was, so I start peaking my
head around the tree. Then I hear him say he's going to move on the
count of three. I wait till three, hear some leaves crunch, bend around
the tree so I can take a shot, then all of a sudden I get lit up from
about 15 yards to the right of where the leaves crunched.... He threw a
stick, and it actually faked me out, go figure. When Brandon was the
sniper, I got him with a lucky shot around a tree, totally blind, just
trying to flush him out. |
| We played a modified capture the flag scenario on the Island.
Basically, one team (one person) started on the far south side, other
person started on the north side, and a third team (one person again)
guarded the flag, right smack dab in the middle of the Island (which has
been turned into quite a fancy fire pit if I do say so myself). This was
fun for a game or two, until we modified it even further. See there were
a bunch of wood pallets by the fire pit (used for firewood no doubt).
Well, we stacked them on top of each other and did a James Bond guard
tower scenario. It was essentially just like the previous three team
capture the flag, except now there was a guard on the guard tower. If
you remember GoldenEye (64) think of the first level. The rules were the
guard had to 'patrol' the 'tower' and he couldn't shoot at either of hte
other teams unless one of them was very much in the open, or shot at
him. Now we made it even more like Bond by making the guard do that
annoying alarm noise, and swat at imaginary flies when no one was
around. Jared even ran off the tower like those retarded guards on the
Dam. It was great fun. |

| Brandon used his CA M4 for the first time. The gun's pretty cool.
Its too bad the SR-16's gone though. You can thank the people at 21'st
Century Airsoft for that one. Why did you leave us Mike and Clayton? |

| We've been going through a lot of shit with 21st. I think all of our
future purchases will be straight from Hong Kong, sorry guys but I think
both parties in this situation agree that this is the best route to
pursue. |
| On a side note, I'd like to open up an airsoft store now. Anyone
want to invest? |

June 15
| Wade and I went and played with the guys from 21st Century airsoft.
We played somewhere in Whitehall. Besides the rain and the horrible bugs
it was a blast. |
| Nick finally got his AUG. 55 days. Was it worth it? Don't know, he's
been too busy on cruses and what not to play. |
| Brandon sold his MP5 to Taylor and got an SR 16. Haven't gotten a
chance to play with Taylor yet. |
| Dave sold his P90 to 21st and got an M4. |
| I'm going to Ferris this fall in Big Rapids. If you play airsoft
around there drop me a line. |
| Wade, Jared, Brandon, and I played a few days ago and did some
escort stuff, it was cool. Must do again. We're getting ready for the
order to WGC so if you need something from there drop a line soon to
save on shipping. |

| Wade is upgraded and at an estimated 320-340fps. His K will be pimp
by the end of the summer. |
| Nick and Brandon are planning on upgrading. Jared will probably be
doing the work as I have bad luck with that stuff. |
April 17
| Well we were supposed to play tomorrow, but plenty of things went
wrong and it looks like we're not getting out until next week. We've got
a few more people interested in playing and it looks very promising that
they'll become regulars. |
| Wade is working on upgrading the k, so that should be interesting.
Nick's getting an AUG. Dave sold his P90 and got and M4. Everyone is
looking into upgrading. I got my huge red dot
on and it sounds like Jay will be putting a tight bore into his gun. |
| Wolverine closed. They sold out to
21st century airsoft.
Good guys, but I will miss Mike and Clayton, hopefully we'll see them at
some events this year. |
| We're going back to standard clips when funds permit, they're more
fun. We don't care if other people want to play with us with high caps,
believe me, 70 rounds is plenty, I'll get you with less than 5. |
November 3
| YEAH! finally got the site back up and running the way it should be.
I don't really like angel fire, but they take FrontPage so shove it
geocities! |
| I want to cram at least 1-2 more games in this season, but mother
nature probably wont permit that. |
October 12
| Finished up a roll of film. Its just going to be Wade Jared and
Myself on it. A digital camera sure would help (ahem Brandon!) |
| I completed the Matrix rip off video we shot and accidentally
recorded over all the other stuff. I now have editing software, fire
wire hook-up, and a video capture card on the way so I'll be able to
edit with HI-8's even if I cant snag the schools DV cameras. |
October 5
| Finally got out there again. And I got a new computer so chances are
I'll be updating the site much more from home. We're going to try angel
fire since they seem to like FrontPage and Jared doesn't have the time
to get 'dream weaver' or whatever he calls it. |
| Jeremy played for the first time today. We didn't get started until
later so he didn't get as much time as we would have liked. Oh well fork
over a couple hundred bucks and get in all the games! |
| I brought a digital video camera from school. We video taped some
fun stuff and I finally finished putting together our little matrix
reenactment (Oct. 10). We are going to try and host it on Calvin's web
space, otherwise it will most likely be on kazaa once I figure out how
to digitize onto a pc. |
August 23
| Today we had seven people and it was great. I don' think we will be
able to play for a while. Chuck and I will let everyone know when we can
play next. Plan on it being at least three weeks though. |
| This is as good as I can get the site right now, it will have to do
for now. I will keep trying to figure it out. |
August 20
| As you may have noticed, the web site is totally screwed up. I am
working on it but I have no idea what the problem is. |
July 25
| Well I (Jared) got my ankle x-rayed and I guess it was broken the
whole time. So I am going to have to get a cast and everything. I will
not be able to play airsoft for the rest of the summer. Now that I am
going to have a lot of extra time, and I will not be able to use my gun.
I think I will upgrade it. Just because I can't play doesn't mean
everyone else can't either. My Backyard is still availably. |
| On a lighter note...I swiped some flags from work, so now when we
play capture the flag, we actually have flags to capture. |
July 21
| Yesterday we had 12 people here playing. It was great. But I think
that is the most people we can fit into our small area. I hope we can
get a lot of people together again soon. If we had any sort of access to
a digital camera we could have some pictures to put on the site. Maybe
we should stop spending money on our guns and save for a camera...yeah
right. |

| Chuck finally helped to update the site. My ankle is almost
better I think. I can awkwardly jog now. I probably can't play this
Sunday because I am on "vacation" now, and I will not get back till late
Sunday night. I am working more now than usual so its not a fun
vacation. Sunday, July 20 could be a day we might start to think about
considering to be a tentative date for our next bigger skirmish if the
weather holds out and we get some people together. So e-mail or IM us if
you think you might want to join us. |
