Plato

"philosophy is a silent dialogue between the soul and itself"

Plato (427-347 b.c.): It has been said that Plato was the greatest philosopher of all time. He founded the first university, The Academy, where his students read the Socratic dialogues which Plato had written. Since Socrates never wrote dialogues of his own, it is sometimes difficult to distinguish Socrates' ideas from that of Plato. In general, Plato tends to be more metaphysical and other-worldly than his teacher. Platos concerns were with the relationship between the "eternal world" and the "material world". He believed that all living entities on earth derived from perfect "forms" or "ideas" in the metaphysical world.
