Stanford Hospital
After undergoing about two years of Chemo therapy for Multiple Myeloma the doctors had on other teatment for Harry a little over a year ago. He was told that he was too old to be considered for a Bone Marrow Transplant. After much insistance by his older brother he told the doctors to either get him an interview with Stanford Hospital, or he would find a doctor that would. On the first visit to Stanford Harry and Karon, his wife, were informed that they have done BMT's on people in their seventies. After undergoing many physical check-ups, including dental, Harry was accepted into the program. Next came the insurance. In spite of all that you may have heard, our HMO was great and covered the procedure totally. I am afraid to ask what the total bill was.This procedure made about a year and half interruption in our life, including this class. We made over 100 trips to Stanford during the past year. I couldn't even go out of the house without wearing a mask. At one time I was on so much medication that I couldn't even write my name.
Finding a donor can be very difficult, but fortunately, one of my four brothers was a perfect match. He was checked out completely and accepted as a donor. Last November he came to Californa and went through the procedure.
Fortunally, Karon, my family and my brothers didn't let me give up, as it seemed like the thing to do at time.
While I have to have help on many things (my bones are soft) I have been able to resume close to normal activity. The attached pages are some of the long over-due or unfinished projects that we have been able to accomplish since the hospital released me, including getting started in this class again to lean how to build the web site for our small hobby (home based wood working and art business).
