Talismans have been discovered throughout the ages and in many significant historical periods. During the medeival period, holy relics and other objects were used as talismans in attempts to cure illnesses and ward off evil by drawing good forces to the wearer. The Egyptians and Babylonians used them as well during many attempts to alter the forces of nature.

Talismans and amulets are often confused. Like the differences in the waxing and waning moons, the Talisman draws good influences to you while the Amulet sends bad influences away.

Talismans are first enbued with magical energies by the practitioner and then this energy is transmitted to their possessors. It is an active energy unlike the amulet which is passive. The general function of talismans is to make possible powerful transformations such as a change in luck, health, wealth, etc.

Talismans can be any object, design, or symbol believed to be endowed with magical powers. They are created for many things such as wealth, love, prevention of death, protection, luck, and even success in the classroom. Many talismans are inscribed on precious stones or parchment under auspicious astrological signs. Precious stones are considered excellent talismans because they each possess their own magical or curative powers which has been endowed by nature..

The Hummingbird symbolizes a messenger, the stopping of time, and love magic.

The Wolf symbolizes Earth wisdom and protection. Also facing the end of one's cycle with dignity and courage, Death and Rebirth, Spirit Teaching, Instinct Linked with Intelligence, Social and Family Values, Outwitting Enemies, steadfastness, skill in protection of self and family, taking advantage of change, intuition, learning, the shadow, guardianship, ritual, loyalty, spirit, a Pathfinder, Psychic Energy, Inner Divinity, teaching, careful study, cunning, escaping hunters, ability to pass by dangers invisibly, strong protection, Spiritual Guidance in Dreams and Meditation, the teacher, success, perseverance, stability, and thought.

The Cobra symbolizes Spiritual wisdom and protection against persecution of any type. It aids psychic creativity, symbolizes rebirth, and draws wisdom. Aids one in dealing with life's problems and moving to higher levels emotionally, spiritually, and intellectually.
