WHAT HAPPENS ON A TYPICAL RACE DAY?

Drivers begin to arrive with their race cars at about 07.30 on Saturday morning. Each car then has to be thoroughly looked over to ensure that it has met all the strict construction and safety regulations. Cars are placed in one of four classes dependant upon their engines -

A Class - up to 1300cc

B Class - 1300cc - 1600cc (plus injected A Class cars)

C Class - 1600cc - 2000cc (plug injected B Class cars)

D Class - Over 2000cc (plus injected C Class cars)

At 10.15 the Clerk of the Course gives a "drivers brief". This is to ensure that everyone is fully aware of the racing rules, particularly the flags that may be waved by the track side Marshalls.

After the brief all drivers take part in two slow "parade laps" so that they can familiarize themselves with the course.

Once the Clerk of the Course is satisfied that all the Marshalls are in place, the track is clear, and medical cover is in position, the racing can start.

Each heat consists of five cars racing over four laps of the course. Cars from any class race in each heat. However, even though they are racing against each other, the real goal is each driver striving to get the best time possible in his or her particular class. Drivers take part in three heats to determine their best overall time, which, in turn, determines, their position in their class.

Following the heats, the fastest five drivers in each class take part in the Class Finals - the first two cars from each final going forward to the Super Final. In this event, the cars are staggered on the Start Line with A Class at the front and D Class at the back. This is to try to ensure that each driver has an equal chance of winning the Super Final.

After the Super Final, the most popular races of the day, as far as the drivers are concerned, take place. First the Team Races where five teams of two drivers race against each other. The winning team is the one that has the fastest combined time for the two cars. Then the Endurance Race - all drivers in each class race with each Class starting ten seconds before the next until up to FIFTY cars are racing at the same time! Winners are determined by the first car in each class to cross the Finishing Line after ten laps. Whew!

Presentation of the trophies then takes place. (See Latest Information for up to date results)
