The World's Greatest Martial Artist Competition

Goku decided to go train under Master Roshi for a year until the dragonballs reappeared. Master Roshi told Goku that before receiving any lessons Goku would first have to find him a nice young girl to live with him. After a couple of tries, another boy appeared on Roshi's island wanting lessons. He introduced himself as Krillin and brought Master Roshi "Dating" magazines to pay for his training. Roshi sent Krillin with Goku to find a girl. While Flying over mountains they saw a beautiful young girl being harassed my two men. Krillin recognized the men as police officers but Goku wouldn't believe him. They rescued the girl and brought her back to Master Roshi's. Upon meeting the girl, Master Roshi was pleased and declared Goku and Krillin his students. They asked the girl who she was and why those men were after her. The girl's name was Launch. Launch opened her knapsack and guessed that the police were after her because she might have robbed a couple of banks. Launch asked them if she could hide out with them until her warants disappear. Krillin suggested that she train with them and she agrees. Roshi goes inside and to get some training uniforms. They start getting changed and Krillin tells Launch she can change inside. Roshi scolds Krillin for this. When Launch comes outside it turns out that the "training uniforms," are nothing more than underwear. Dust kicks up and Launch sneezes. Her hair changes from blue to blonde, and her eyes from brown to green. She wips out an automatic rifle and begins shooting the boys. More dust is kicked up and Launch returns to normal. She explains that whenever she sneezes she switches personalities. She doesn't feel like training anymore and goes inside to prepare dinner.

For their first training exercise Master Roshi decides to send his new students on a scavenger hunt. He writes his name on a rock and then throws it into the forest. He next tells them that they have a half-hour to find the stone or no dinner. The one to find the rock keeps it, and the other can keep his appetite. While Goku is searching, Krillin tries to fool Master Roshi by writing Roshi's name on a similiar rock. Roshi's throws the rock back at Krillin stating that it's a fake. Krillin goes into the forest to find the real rock. Nearby he here's Goku cheering in excitement because he found the rock. Krillin rushes to Goku and offers to make sure it's the right rock. Then he runs off with the rock. Determined to get the rock back and his supper Goku chases after Krillin. The end up fightung, and Goku gets Krillin into a submission. Krillin surrenders and tosses the fake rock back into the forest, fooling Goku. He heads back home with the real rock. The dinner Launch cooked that night turned out to be poisonous and Master Roshi cancelled the next day's training to give him and Krillin time to recover.

On their first day of training, Master Roshi woke them up very early. He had them deliver milk to all the houses on the island. This was to build up their agility, speed, endurance, and durabilty. After that it was time to begin their mid-morning excercises. They had to plow up a farmer's field to build up the strength of their hands. After that it was time to have breakfast. After breakfast it was time to begin their studies. Master Roshi explained to them that a strong body is useless without a sharp mind. After lunch they took a nap. Then they had to swim in shark infested waters and then finally had to avoid bee-stings while tied to a tree. At the end of the day, Master Roshi explained that they'll have to repeat these training exercises daily while wearing heavy turtle shells like his. He also told them that in a year they will be taking part in the 21st World's Greatest Martial Arts Competition. They weren't the only ones training for the competition. Yamcha was travelling around challenging fighting dojos in prepartion for the tournament. In a year's time Master Roshi took Krillin and Goku to the tournament. Goku reunited with his old friends Bulma, Oolong, Yamcha, and Puar.

The next morning the tournament began. The fighters all gathered where the announcer explained the rules of the tournament. They would first take part in the elimination round. All matches would be one minute long. If there was no KO or ringout within that time, the winner would be decided based on points. Their were four fighting rings and the top 2 fighters from each ring would be admitted to the quarter-finals and get to fight in front of an audience. When the tournaments elimination round began the fights were easy for Krillin, Goku, and Yamcha. Each of them all made it to the quarter-finals which began that afternoon. The final eight fighters of the tournament turned out to be: Goku, Krillin, Yamcha, Jackie Chun, Ran Fan, Giran, Nam, and Bacterium. They all drew random numbers that decided who would fight who in the tournament.

The first match was Krillin against Bacterium. Bacterium was a man who had never taken a bath in his entire life. Noone had ever beaten him because all his opponents could fight with only one hand (They had to use the other to hold their nose). His stench was over whelming and the fact that he fought dirty didn't make it any better. Bacterium breathed on Krillin, touched Krillin, touched private body parts then touched Krillin, and also burped and farted in his face. The fight was looking hopeless. Goku then reminded Krilin that he didn't have a nose. Krillin realized that didn't have to smell Bacterium and began hammering him with fury of punches and kicks. As a finishing blow Krillin pulled down his pants and farted in Bacterium's face for a little payback. The next match wasn't quite as interesting. It was Yamcha vs. and old karate master Jackie Chun. As the match began Yamcha began attacking but none of his attacks were doing any good. Then he tried his wolf fang fist attack, but Jackie Chun dodged all those attacks as well. Then a blast of cool air blew in the ring and knocked Yamcha out. Jackie Chun one by a ring out and everyone was amazed that he beat Yamcha without touching him. The third match was Ran Fan vs. Nam. Although Nam was a superior fighter he could quite finish Ran Fan off. First she tricked him into thinking she was helpless. Then she kept flirting with him so he wouldn't attack. He finally got over her tricks and defeated her.

It started to rain hard, so the announcer called a recess until the rain died down. While in a local hut Giran began bullying everyone around. Goku wanted to fight him to teach him a lesson. Jackie Chun appeared and stopped them. He told them to wait until the tournament began again and settle their differences in the ring. When the fourth match began, Goku and Giran began fighting. The fight was impressive and the seamed even throughout. Giran spit out a special gum and wrapped it around Goku immobilizing him. Giran then pick Goku up and threw him out of the ring. Every was dissapointed Goku lost, when a yellow rain cloud flew towards the ring. On it was Goku. Giran complained that Goku was cheating. The tournament judges announced that they wouldn't disqualify Goku for using the cloud, but they would if he used it again. Confindent that he could win, Giran went up to Goku to do the same thing again. This time he went to punch Goku out of the ring. Unexpectedly Goku's tail grew back and hooked onto Giran's wrist, avoiding the attack. Then using his strength Goku breaks free of the gum. Never having faced an opponent strong enough to do that before, Giran forfeited the match.

The semi-finals began with a match between Krillin and Jackie Chun. Most of the fight was in Jackie Chun's favour. Resoring to his craftiness, Krillin tells Chun that his shoelace is untied. In the instance Chunn looks away Krillin kicks him out of the ring and sends him soaring. The crowd cheers for Krillin believing that he's won. Unexpectedly Jackie Chun uses the Kamehameha wave to blast himself back into the ring. Everyone is in disbelief since Master Roshi is supposed to be the only person able to do it. Moving extremely fast Chun punches Krillin. Along with Krillin most of the audience doesn't see the attack. Goku tells Krillin that he saw it, and that Krillin could see it to if concentrated. Chun rushes to strike a second time and Krillin moving at the same speed strikes back. A second later they appear at opposite ends of the ring. Krillin passes out. The announcer begins the 10-count and Krillin manages to get back up. The announcer stops the match and asks them what happened. They replay it in slow motion with the announcer carrying them around. When they resume fighting Jackie knocks Krillin unconcious again and this time he doesn't get back up.

In the fighter's corner, Goku and Yamcha congratulate Krillin for doing so well. Yamcha states the Krillin did escpecially well considering he just fought Master Roshi. Jackie Chun who was nearby told them that he wasn't Roshi. Goku sniffs Chun and says he doesn't smell like Roshi more like oranges. Yamcha explained that was because Chun was wearing perfume. Chun who was spraying it on at that instant explain it helped him getting ladies. Tired of his excuses, Yamcha announced that it was just Master Roshi in a wig. He tried to pull the "wig" off, but it wouldn't come off. The announcer announced the next match Goku vs. Nam. Despite Nam's determination, Goku is victorious. Nam had entered the tournament to help his village. It was going through a severe dry spell and he was planning to use the prize money to buy water for his village. Jackie Chun figured this out by reading Nam's mind and after the match, took him to a well. Chun gave him a dinocap and told him he could use it store as much water as he'd like. Nam was shocked to learn that in the city, water was free. Chun then asked Nam to do him a favour. Upon returning to the fighter's corner, Yamcha returned to badgering Chun and trying to get him to confess to being Roshi. Chun points out Master Roshi in the audience, and Yamcha finally backs off. After Yamcha looks away, Nam takes off his disguise and heads home.

The final match of the tournament begins. Chun vs. Goku. Goku jumps up high for an aerial strike. Chun jumps up and kicks him out of the ring. Everyone is disappointed that Goku has lost the tournament, remembering that he can no longer use the nimbus cloud. Goku flies back into the ring using his tail as a propellor. Chun remarks that Goku is lucky his tail grew back. Goku states that he could have used the Kamehameha wave like Chun had done in a previous match. Chun laughs stating that a mere boy could not have mastered the Kamehameha wave. They both fire Kamehameha waves at eachother. Proving to be even Chun tricks Goku using the after image technique. Goku mimicks the attack doing three after images in a row then strikes a bewildered Chun from above. Goku tries to use the Jan Ken fighting technique Gohan taught him but Chun seems to know it better then Goku. Then Chun starts using the drunkin fighter technique to confuse Goku. Goku makes up his on technique called Mad Monkey to counter. Jackie Chun then uses a technique to hypnotize Goku and knocks him unconcious. Goku gets up determined to keep fighting. None of his techniques working, Chun decides to use his most lethal. He traps Goku in a field of lightning and explains that noone has survived this technique before and tells Goku to forfeit. The fight had been going on for hours and the moon was now out. With his tail grown back, Goku transformed into a were-monkey. In this form Goku was too strong for Chun to maintain the attack. Yamcha and the others prepared to cut off Goku's tail when Chun powered up for a super Kamehameha wave, like the one Master Roshi used to destroy Fire Mountain. After the blast Goku was nowhere in sight. Everyone believed he was dead. Goku got up from under the rubble but was naked. Krillin gave him his Gi and changed into the clothes he wore at the Orin Temple. Chun explained the blast was not aimed at Goku, but the moon.

They resumed fighting hand to hand combat. They both became extremely tired. They decided to finish the fight attacking eachother with flying sidekicks. Goku's didn't hit Chun as hard because of Goku's little legs. They both collapsed and the announcer began a 10-count. Neither of them got up. The announcer then announced that the since the World's Greatest Martial Artist Competition can't have two champions. The first one of them to stand up and declare himself champ would be the champion. Goku struggled to stand up he tried to say the sentence "I'm the champion" but fainted before he could finish it. Then Jackie Chun gave it a shot and was successful. After the tournament Goku's friends congratulated him on a job welldone. He was very hungry so Master Roshi took him and Krillin out to dinner. He invited Yamcha, Puar, Oolong, and Bulma along too. At dinner a starving Goku kept asking for more and more food. After the dinner the bill came up to a figure close to the prize money lucky for Roshi, he had entered the tournament as Jackie Chun. Master Roshi used all of the prize money he won to cover the bill.
