Beer Review: Andechs Doppelbock Dunkel

It is no wonder this beer, made by Benedictine Monks, was such an exceptional Dunkel. The monks of Andechs Monastery should have it pretty much perfected by now - they have only been at it since1455. This dark Doppelbock offered a full bodied and rich pull. The waiter warned we naïve Americans that it was strong, and it was - only around 7% though. It reminded Growler Gal, who accompanied me on this journey, of Dominion's Oak Barrel Stout with its smoky tones. I agreed as we greedily snatched the glass from one another. I highly recommend the Andechs Doppelbock Dunkel if you are ever in Munich. -- Growler Guy
