Chapter 4

As soon as Luke had left Alexis looked angrily at Jax.

"What the hell was that?"

"I'm sorry Luke is an ass, I'll..."

"I'm not talking about Luke I'm talking about you. Last time I checked you were neither my mother nor my bodyguard." She fumed.

"Alexis..."

"Jax I appreciate everything you've done for me but it doesn't give you the right to make decisions for me." In spite of Alexis' angry tone Jax's entire face suddenly began to beam. "What are you smiling at?" She demanded.

"You, it's you."

"What's me? She asked confused.

"I was so afraid, that you would be Jason, that you would change, but you haven't you're still you."

"Okay let me get this straight your happy because I'm not Jason? Who is Jason?"

"Never mind it's not important the only thing that matters is that you're you." He told her embracing both her and Kristina in a spontaneous hug.

"Jax how much sleep have you gotten in the last few days?"

"Why?"

"I think you need more. Why don't you go home, get some sleep, take a shower."

"Is that your way of telling me I stink?"

"No, though you could definitely use a shave."

"All right I'll run home and shave but I don't need to sleep.

"You're impossible."

"That's why you love me." Jax froze an instant before Alexis did. Both of them looked at each other unsure of what to do next. There bantering was so natural that Jax had forgotten she didn't remember anything. "Um I meant..."

"It's okay, I know." She could tell the words had just slipped out. And yet in spite of his joking manner she was sure he meant it. They had, after all, been married so she supposed she must have been in love with him at some point. She wondered why there marriage had ended, according to Zander they were the perfect couple. Had he left her? She couldn't imagine any reason she would have left him.

"Are you sure?"

"I'm fine, go home."

Jax reluctantly left, but he wasn't going home.

Alone with her daughter Alexis began to wonder about the things Luke Spencer had said. There was still so much she didn't know about herself. Thoughts were interrupted when a nurse entered her room.

"Hi there, how are you feeling?"

"Okay." Alexis lied.

"A little tired maybe? The nurse pressed.

"A bit," Alexis admitted.

"I actually came to see if you wanted me to take Kristina back to the nursery, so you can get a little rest."

"Oh I..." Despite her near exhaustion she did not want to let go of her baby.

"I know it's hard to let go of them, but I promise you I'll bring her back. By the way my name is Bobbie Spencer." She told Alexis smiling.

"Spencer? Any relation to Luke Spencer?"

"Oh no, don't tell me he's already come by to bother you? I'm sorry, my brother is... a pain in the neck."

"He seemed to know me pretty well, he said we were friends but Jax claimed that wasn't exactly true." Alexis pressed hoping to get more information on Luke and her relationship with him.

"Well I don't know if I'd call you and Luke friends exactly." Bobbie told her. "In all honesty I've never understood your relationship with Luke."

"He claimed we were partners."

"Any partnership you had with my brother is better forgotten." Bobbie told her.

"Do we... I mean, do we know each other? Were we friends?" Alexis asked awkwardly.

Bobbie searched for a moment through all the ways she knew Alexis, looking for a connection that wouldn't confuse her or give her more information than she needed.

"Did Jax mention your family?" She asked, wanting to make sure she didn't say anything she shouldn't.

"He told me I have a brother and a nephew."

"Oh good, well I was married to your brother briefly." Bobbie explained figuring it was the easiest connection. It would be harder to explain her almost marriage to Jax's brother while Alexis was married to Jax, especially if Jax hadn't told her about their marriage. She also didn't want to take the my daughter is insanely jealous of you and your relationship with her on again off again husband, route of association.

"So you were my sister in law?"

"Well not exactly because at the time no one knew..." So much for keeping it simple. "Yes I was your sister in law." She told Alexis, after all it was true even if no one had been aware of it at the time.

"What is my brother like?"

"Stefan? Stefan is... again Bobbie was torn between the truth and the fact that Alexis really didn't need any more to handle right now. Stefan is protective of his family. He cares deeply for both you and Nicholas."

"Nicholas?"

"Your nephew. He's been here several times to visit you, do you know if anyone's told him you're awake?"

"Jax didn't mention anything."

"I can call him if you like."

"I would but um... could you explain to him, about my memory?"

"Of course. Now you get some rest." Bobbie instructed as she lifted Kristina from her mother without waking her.

As soon as Bobbie closed the door Alexis closed her eyes and drifted to sleep. Several hours later she was awakened by voices outside her room. She recognised one of the voices as Jax but the other one was unfamiliar.

"You have no right to do this." The unknown man was yelling.

"I have every right, she doesn't want to see you." Jax's voice yelled back.

"Did she tell you that?"

"Go home to your wife Sonny."

"What about your wife Jax, when was the last time you even saw her?"

"Leave Skye out of this. And leave Alexis alone, she has enough to handle right now without having to deal with you."

"What do you mean, I thought she was okay now?" The man asked, his voice suddenly concerned.

"She's fine, she just needs some rest. Why don't you leave Sonny, you know you're the last person she wants to see right now."

"All right, fine," the man said sounding defeated. She heard both men walking away from her door and finally let out the breath she hadn't realised she was holding. She laid in bed letting the questions consume her mind. Why didn't Jax tell her he was married? Who was Sonny? And why did Jax lie to him about her condition?

Alexis rolled over and saw something that had not been there when she fell asleep. On her bedside table was a vase of gardenias.
