I can't believe this is happening. I am standing in a beautiful hotel room in Puerto Rico about to marry Sonny Corinthos. Am I crazy? Probably. The weird thing is I'm not half as nervous as I was at my wedding to Ned. That's most likely a good thing since I ran out on that wedding. Maybe that's why Sonny wants to meet me here? He knows all to well what the mere thought of marriage does to me. That is why this is going to be different. There will be no giving anyone away, no ceremonial walk down the aisle, and definitely no veil. This wedding is the beginning of our life together and it will be simple, and stress free. This is my new step, a new beginning.
"Alexis?"
"Sonny. You could knock, you know. What if I wasn't dressed yet? Wipe that grin off your face before I change my mind."
"You wouldn't do that, we had a deal."
"We had a deal? That's the best you can come up with to soothe the nerves of your nervous bride?"
"Oh baby, I'm sorry, come here." Taking my hand and pulling me towards him Sonny proceeds to kiss me thoroughly until I forget everything but the feel of his lips on mine. Slowly he pulls away and smiles. "Better?"
"Much. Thanks."
"Anytime. Now I believe we have a wedding to go to."
"I'm ready." What am I doing?
Ten minutes later we are standing on the beach in front of a minister. His wife is acting as our witness and they both look tired. Sonny probably dragged them out of bed to be here, it is nearly one am and the minister looks at least seventy. He's saying something and I suppose I should be paying attention.
"Alexis Davis do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband? Do you promise to love, honor and obey..."
"What? Did you just say OBEY?"
"Oh no."
"Quiet Sonny. Answer the question sir."
"I'm sorry is there a problem? You said you wanted the traditional vows." The confused man looks to Sonny.
"Traditional? That was medieval. There is no way in hell I am vowing to OBEY you Michael Corinthos Jr."
"Alexis calm down, I swear I didn't know that was what traditional meant. Um maybe it would be better if we just said our own vows." He looks hopefully from me to the minister and back again. Both of us remain silent.
"Well I think that sounds like a lovely idea," beams the minister's wife who reminds me slightly of Lila.
"Great, great," Sonny's still nervous fully aware how close I am to going off again.
"I'll start. Alexis Davis, sweetheart." He grins at me. Sorry this time the dimples won't be enough.
"I take you as my lawfully wedded wife, and I vow that I will take care of, I mean help you, I mean... I will always have a paper bag when you need help breathing. I will cook for you and make you coffee every morning, after the baby is born that is. I will give our child non-gender specific toys and let you chose the color for the nursery. I will try not to get arrested at least until after the baby is born. And I promise to supply you with all the rum you can handle." This earns a concerned look from the minister. "Not for the next several months of course," Sonny adds quickly.
"Most of all I promise to be there when you need me Alexis, protect you with my life and spend each day of that life making sure you and our child are happy. Um your turn."
"Well I don't know how I'm going to top rum and paint but let's see. I take you Michael Corinthos Jr. as my lawfully wedded husband and I vow... never to make you drink my coffee. Um... to defend you, both in and out of court. I promise to put up with Johnny and... Oh you know I'm not changing my name, right?"
"Alexis I never expected you to..."
"All right fine, I'll hyphenate."
"Alexis, you don't have to..."
"Sonny I'm in the middle of my vows here."
"Sorry."
"Where was I?"
"You were promising to put up with someone named Johnny, dear." The minister's wife responds sweetly.
"Thank you. Right, I promise to put up with Johnny and company providing we set some ground rules. And I promise to tolerate you for the rest of my life." He smiles at this and gives me a knowing look.
"Alexis we're getting married. I think it's okay to admit you love me," he says encouragingly.
"Fine, I love you. Happy?" The dimples seem to indicate he is.
"Then by the power invested in me I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride."
And then Sonny is kissing me and like Snow White it has the effect of bringing my out of the walking sleep I have been in for the last couple hours.
"OH MY GOD!" I begin as soon Sonny's lips are off mine.
"Oh no. Alexis, sweetie, breathe."
"We're married," I gasp.
"It's okay, I promise everything will be fine."
"Don't say that to me. Don't you dare. The last time you said that Carly became little miss live a lot, you turned into some sort of zombie, and I ended up alone and pregnant."
"Alexis calm down please." Who knew he would have to live up to his vows so quickly and yet out of his suit he pulls a brown paper bag. "Here sweetie, breathe."
"Thank you," I say into the bag as I attempt to regain control.
"Is she all right?" The minister asks.
"I'm fine," I say taking the bag away from my face.
"Really this happens all the time." Sonny adds trying to be helpful.
"It does not."
"Yes it does."
"Jerk.
"Wife."
He's right, I am his wife. I am the wife of Sonny Corinthos, does that make me the Godmother? I can't believe this, I am actually someone's wife, for real. I am the one thing I never thought I would be. What was I thinking? How could I do this? How will I tell my family? How will I tell my friends? What will I tell my clients? Why is everything spinning?"
"Oh dear."
"Alexis, sweetie wake up."
