Chapter 8

Sonny and Alexis walked into Kelly's hand in hand. Zander and Emily were sitting at a table and motioned them over.

"Oh my gosh Alexis, congratulations." Emily squealed standing to hug Alexis. "I was so excited when Zander told me about the baby."

"Thanks Emily."

"I thought you were supposed to be staying in bed?" Zander asked with concern.

"She was and she would be if Johnny weren't so gullible." Sonny responded.

"Hey don't blame Johnny, keeping me under house arrest isn't in his job description, besides I have an honest face." She grinned.

"How do you know what's in his job description?" Sonny challenged.

"As an officer of the court I don't want to know what his job entails. So what are you two up to?" She turned to Emily and Zander in an attempt to change the subject.

"Just grabbing a quick bite."

"I finally pulled her away from her books to get her to eat."

"Well law is a subject that requires a lot of studying." Emily defended herself.

"I remember it all too well," Alexis agreed, helping herself to one of Zander's fries. Sonny began to laugh.

"I guess that's my cue to go order us some food. You want fries?"

"Yeah, and see if they have any peanut butter." Sonny headed to the counter without a word he knew better than to argue logic when it came to Alexis and peanut butter.

"Please sit," Zander invited pulling out a chair for her.

"Thanks. So Emily, how is school going?"

"Good, I guess. It's tougher than I thought it would be but totally interesting."

"Are you still going to be able to work for me?"

"Absolutely, I can't thank you enough for letting me do this Alexis."

"Trust me, you're doing me the favor. I should have gotten an assistant ages ago."

"I couldn't agree more." Sonny said joining them.

Alexis watched Emily and Zander and she couldn't help wonder if her own child was anything like them. He or she would be about the same age. Were they going to university? Did they have a job? What were their interests? Had they endured hardships? There were so many questions and she knew that she needed answers.

"Sweetheart?" Sonny's voice brought her back to reality. "Your food is here."

"Oh, thanks." She quickly dipped a french fry in the peanut butter and ate it. Sonny and Zander both looked slightly sick, Emily laughed.

Before long Emily and Zander finished their meal and left. Once they were alone Alexis decided it was time to confront Sonny. He had been unusually quiet since the hospital and she knew why.

"Are you still mad at me?" She asked dragging him away from wherever his thoughts had been.

"I'm not mad I just wish you hadn't lied to me."

"So if I told you I was going to see Stefan, you would have been fine with it?"

"Alexis the last time you saw your brother you ended up in the hospital, of course I wouldn't have been fine with it. You're not supposed to get upset and seeing Stefan upsets you. Why did you go see him anyway?"

"I was hoping he would be able to tell me what happened to my child." She raised her chin and looked into his eyes. "I'm going to try to find my child Sonny."

"Are you sure that you want to do this now?" Sonny asked and was taken back by the look of anger on Alexis' face.

"Why is it no one seems to believe that I might have the right to get to know my own child."

"Hey, hey." He grabbed her hand in an attempt to sooth her. "I'm not saying you shouldn't try to find the kid, I'm just suggesting you wait until after the baby's born." Alexis didn't say anything but she knew inm her heart that she couldn't wait.
