Chapter 9

"Jillian, Sonny's waiting." Alexis called from the sofa.

"I know, I'm looking for my math book."

"It's on the table down here," Alexis told her before turning her attention back to the file she was reading.

"So are you excited about tomorrow?" Sonny asked coming to sit beside her.

"Well I'm happy to go to court but I wish it was a more challenging case. I barely need to show up to win this one."

"Well if your looking for a challenge I could always go tease Taggert for a while, I'm sure he'd be happy to charge me with something." Sonny grinned at her.

"Don't even joke about that Sonny. I swear if you get arrested I'll leave you in jail."

"Who's going to jail?" Jillian asked as she came down the stairs.

"No one. Your Mom needs me too much." Sonny replied winking at Alexis. "Do you have everything you'll need?"

"Yeah, I still can't believe Dad's taking me to Alaska for the week, this is so cool."

"Cold is the word your searching for, did you pack your heavy coat?"

"Yes Mom".

."Okay, I'll see you in a week, don't let your father talk you into eating the moose meat, trust me."

"Come on sweetie." Sonny led her to the door. "Are you sure you'll be all right?" He asked Alexis.

"Yes I'll be fine, besides Felicia's coming over."

Sonny looked over at Jillian for about the fiftieth time since they had entered the car.

"Is something wrong Sonny?' She asked.

"Of course not, why would you think that?"

"You keep staring at me."

"Oh sorry."

"That's okay, do you want to talk about it?"

"About what?"

"Whatever is making you stare at me?"

"Oh, um actually I was hoping to get your opinion on something."

"Okay."

"Well I was wondering if, um..."

"Just spit it out."

"You know you sound more like your mother every day."

"Quit stalling."

"I want to ask your mother to marry me." Jillian jumped up, as much as her seat belt would allow and threw herself into Sonny's arms.

"Finally." She shouted happily.

"So then you're okay with all this?" Sonny asked through his laughter.

"Of course, I'm thrilled. Now I'll officially have two dads." Sonny couldn't help the emotion he felt at hearing those words. He loved her so much, which was one of the reasons he wanted to prepare her for the worst.

"You know she might not say yes." He began hesitantly. "Why not? She loves you."

"I know but sometimes it's not about love. I mean, your mother has some issues with marriage."

"You mean cause she ran away from her wedding to Mr. Ashton?"

"How did you...?"

"I heard auntie Kristina talking about it."

"Figures."

"Maybe you should talk to my dad?"

"Why?"

"Well he is the only man Mom has actually married, maybe he can help."

"Thanks Jilly but I don't think..."

"At least think about it."

"I will." Sonny lied. There was no way on earth he was going to discuss his plans with Jax. "Listen to me sweetheart, I want you to know that no matter what happens we will always be a family. Well here we are."

"Come on in Felicia, thanks for coming over."

"No problem Alexis, congratulations again."

"Thanks, um please sit." Felicia and Alexis spent several minutes discussing several things including a sleepover Jillian was hoping to have with Georgie the following week. "Well I guess I've stalled long enough, the reason I called you over here was because I'd like to hire you, to find someone."

"Okay", Felicia nodded trying to reassure Alexis. "Who do you want me to find?"

"My child."

Sonny and Jillian walked into Jax's house where they were met by an exuberant Justin.

"Hey Justin," Jillian squealed as she began to play with the dog.

"Sure she greets the dog, but not her father." Jax teased.

"Hi dad. I'm going to take Justin in the back yard, Sonny has something he wants to talk to you about. He needs some advice." She quickly ran into the backyard and out of the line of fire. Jax and Sonny stood on opposite sides of the room staring at each other, neither willing to look away.

"So", Jax said at last, "you need my help?"

"No!" Sonny exclaimed with a bit too much force. "I mean not really, it's just that I..." Dammit, Sonny did not want to be having this conversation and yet Jax was Alexis' best friend and they had been married. Perhaps Jax could help after all. The question was whether or not he would.
