Chapter 6

Alexis walked to the club and headed immediately towards the bar. It was early and the club wasn't busy yet. She had planned it that way, hoping it would provide her the opportunity she needed. She had wanted to come right away after her talk with Michael but things kept coming up. She had taken Brooke-Lynn out the following evening. Her heart nearly breaking when the little girl asked her why she didn't love her Daddy anymore. She had tried to reassure her that they would always be friends and eventually Brooke-Lynn had seemed satisfied.

"I'm looking for Luke," she told the man behind the bar.

"Well Legs you found him," the man answered grinning at her.

"It's Alexis, Alexis Davis." She told him trying to ignore the way he was leering at her. Luke Spencer was going to be a challenge.

"Whatever you say Sweetheart, what can I do for you?"

"I'm looking for some information and I was told you were the man to see."

"Told by who?"

"I'm afraid I can't tell you that."

"Then I'm afraid I can't help you," he said beginning to walk away.

"It's about the Cassadines." He stopped and came back.

"Why would a pretty little thing like yourself want to trouble yourself with that big bad family?" He asked once more full of his own unique brand of charm.

"I'm the district attorney Mr. Spencer, it's my job to trouble myself with the big bad people of this town."

"Ah a legal eagle with killer legs, I may just have to stop by the police station more often.

"That would be difficult, according to your record you're there almost weekly as it is."

"Those were all false charges, I tell you the police in this town, they get bored and Bubba has it in for me ever since..."

"Bubba?"

"You know, Mac, the police Commissioner."

"Mr. Spencer I'm really not interested in your personal problems with Bubb... Commissioner Scorpio. Now either you can tell me what I want to know or I will go elsewhere."

"All right relax baby, no need to beg."

Rather than rise to the bait she merely glared at him which made him laugh.

"What is it you want to know?"

"Are they really as bad as people seem to think?"

"No they're about a thousand times worse. They're the wolf, the evil queen and all the other badies your mother read you about all rolled into one, only this ain't a fairytale princess."

"But they're not all bad, I mean Kristina Cassadine..."

"Ah, the cosmic songbird. She's not like the rest of them. She's singing here later tonight. Never thought I'd have a Cassadine performing in my club..." He trailed off looking over her shoulder at someone who had just entered. "Hey there Sonny, have you met the newest addition to the PC legal system?"

"Uh yeah, hello Ms. Davis." Sonny greeted her uneasily. He hadn't expected her to show up here, especially not tonight.

"Hello Mr. Corinthos." It was the first time she had addressed him in this way and she felt odd as though it were all a farce. Jason looked from Sonny to the D.A., something was definitely going on. They were both avoiding eye contact looking anywhere but at each other. Before he could see anything else Sonny began walking to one of the empty tables. She was about to begin questioning Luke again when Jax walked into the club and came over.

"Alexis what are you doing here?"

"If you want to talk some more Legs come by my office some time." Luke said, leaving her alone with Jax.

"What was that about?"

"Nothing. So are you here to see Kristina perform?" She asked Jax.

"Yeah, it's her first time, here anyway, so I thought I'd come and give her some moral support. Care to join me?"

"Sure," she replied sitting down at a table with him. She knew she shouldn't but she couldn't help herself. She wanted to see Kristina Cassadine. She wanted to talk to her to get to know her, it was the reason she had come to Port Charles in the first place. Before long Luke introduced her and Kristina Cassadine appeared on stage. Alexis watched her, listened to her sing a slow song about love and loss and marveled at her. She was definitely talented, she had a strong voice, and she sang with great emotion. Alexis was so wrapped up in her thoughts that she did not notice him watching her from across the room. He saw the pain in her eyes as she listened to the songs and he knew it was more than the lyrics that were affecting her, it was the singer. Kristina Cassadine meant something to her and he wanted to know what. Alexis may not have noticed his steady gaze but once again Jason did. After her first set Kristina began towards to Jax's table. Then she caught sight of Sonny and Jason. She smiled and waved at them before continuing to the table. How did she know him? Alexis wondered and why didn't he mention it when she had asked about the Cassadines?

Alexis was only vaguely aware that Kristina was now at their table giving him a quick hug before turning her attention to her.

"Hi you must be Alexis, it's so nice to meet you," she smiled warmly.

"Nice to meet you too." Alexis said not really believing that it was actually happening. Kristina joined them at their table and began talking a mile a minute about some problem she was having with the band. Jax murmured sympathetically while Alexis sat in silence and awe.

"I'm so sorry, I haven't let you get a word in." Kristina apologized.

"Why should tonight be any different?" Jax joked and Kristina swatted him lightly.

"I need to get going soon," she said to no one in particular. "Alexis did Jax ask you about dinner?"

"Dinner?"

"I knew he wouldn't." Kristina glared at Jax before turning to Alexis again. "I wanted to invite you and Jax to have dinner with me and my boyfriend this week. He's somewhere around... He works here, well sometimes. He actually works for Sonny. Oh but not in that way," she quickly continued when she remembered that Alexis was the D.A. "There he is," Kristina said waving over Alexis' shoulder the man who was on the other side of the room.

"Hey sweetie, he came around the table towards Kristina then he saw who she was sitting with. "Alexis?"

"Zander?"

"You two know each other?" Kristina asked looking from one to the other obviously confused.

"Um yes," it was Alexis who spoke first. "Zander... assisted me on a case I worked on in New York." Jax knew Alexis well enough to know there was something more, something she wasn't saying. He also knew it would be pointless to try to coerce it out of her.

"You never told me you worked with the D.A. in New York?" Kristina was telling Zander her arm wrapping around his waist.

"Yeah well it was kind of a one time thing. Um I think your next set is about to start," he told Kristina and she quickly rushed to get back on stage. He also left the table with a quick glance at Alexis as though not believing she was really there.

Sonny watched her from across the room as Kristina began to sing again. He knew that Jason was watching him, wondering why he was staring at PC's new D.A. but he didn't care. There were tears in her eyes and he wanted more than anything to wipe them away for her. To hold her and comfort her, to stop whatever it was that was making her cry. Then he saw her lean over and whisper something in Jax's ear. When the song was over they left together, Jax's arm wrapped around her shoulder. And Sonny clutched his drink a little tighter.
