Chapter 6

Alexis sat at the table wishing she were anywhere else in the world. CC had been briefly distracted while they ordered but now he was watching her intently, apparent trying to decide what question to ask first.

Then to her surprise, and complete delight she heard the unmistakable ringing of her cell phone.

"Excuse me a minute. Hello?"

"You look like you're about to bolt for the nearest exit." The unmistakable and amused voice of Sonny came through the line. Alexis looked over to the table where Carly now sat alone, looking annoyed and bored. Sonny must have been calling from the lobby.

"What do you want?" She asked ignoring the looks both Mason and CC gave her.

"Now is that anyway to talk to your knight and shining armour?" He asked with a chuckle.

"My what?"

"I'm rescuing you princess." Okay so the knight routine was Jax's thing but still for Alexis he was willing to try anything once.

"Excuse me?"

"Alexis all you have to do is say I'm a client..."

"Which you're not."

"With a legal emergency," he continued ignoring her interruption. "Then you can leave what appears to be the lunch from hell by the look on your face when the old guy showed up."

"I can't just..."

"Lie? Of course you can just repeat after me, you did what?"

"What?"

"No, you have to repeat the whole thing." He told her patiently.

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"Good, now hang up the phone and tell them something has come up and then stand up and walk out."

"Firstly I don't take orders from anyone least of all you, secondly I will be right there," she finished hanging up the phone. "I'm so sorry but I have a client in trouble, I have to run."

"I'll bet," Mason smirked glancing at Sonny's still empty chair.

"I'll see you gentlemen later." She said over her shoulder as she walked out.

She was barely out the door when Sonny appeared in front of her.

"No need to thank me." He told her graciously.

"Good because I wasn't going to, now if you'll excuse me..." She tried to move past him but Sonny stepped sideways to block her.

"I thought since you don't really have a client we could go somewhere and talk."

"You seem to be forgetting a little something you left at your table. Your wife." She added when he looked confused.

"I told Carly something came up."

"Sonny I am not going to go off somewhere with you while your wife things your off doing business."

"Alexis we need to talk, if you want I will go in there and explain that to Carly right now." He took a step towards the dining room.

"And say what exactly? Carly I'm going to spend the next hour alone with the woman you are insanely not to mention unfoundedly jealous of, is that okay? I can almost hear the shrieking now." Alexis mused.

"That's not true you know?"

"You think she would nod and smile?" She asked sarcastically.

"That's not what I meant ... never mind." Sonny couldn't tell her that Carly had every reason in the world to be jealous. "Alexis please lets go talk."

Realising that talking to him was the only way to rectify the Johnny situation she reluctantly agreed. Soon they arrived at Alexis' apartment and she quickly unlocked the door and let them in.

"You finally got a good lock," Sonny commented. "I guess you don't need me anymore." He tried to joke lightly but he couldn't hide the sadness in his voice.

"Sonny I..."

"I know, you never did need me." He finished for her certain that she had been about to tell him so but not wanting to hear her say it. "I was the one who needed... Alexis did I help you at all, I mean our friendship did it...? I guess I'm asking why you bothered with me for as long as you did?" He said at last.

At first Alexis was tempted to give him a flip remark but something in his expression changed her mind.

"I put up with you, as you so eloquently put it because you are probably the only person on this earth who I could tell anything and know you would understand."

Sonny was both shocked and moved by her words so much so that he could not stop himself from reaching for her.

"Sonny," she stepped away from him before he could touch her. "We are here to talk about Johnny remember?"

"Alexis this is the first real conversation we've had in months and Johnny is the last thing I want to talk about."

"Then what do you want to talk about?" She asked though she knew the answer.

"Us."

Without a word Alexis turned and left the room heading in the direction of the kitchen. Sonny stood there for a moment before following her. Entering the kitchen he found her pulling various things out of the fridge.

"What are you doing?"

"I'm making lunch." She answered pulling out several cheese slices and a lemon.

"No really, what are you doing?"

"I happen to be hungry Sonny, since I didn't get a chance to eat earlier, thanks to you."

Sonny looked at the counter which now contained eggs, plum sauce, a cucumber and a roll of Pillsbury chocolate chip cookie dough, as well as the cheese and lemon.

"What exactly are you planning on making?" Sonny asked trying not to laugh.

"I haven't decided yet," she answered looking over her choices and realising the only thing that looked worth eating was the cookie dough.

"No way," Sonny told her when he saw where her eyes landed. "You cannot eat cookie dough for lunch. Here sit, I'll make you something." Alexis was about to protest when Sonny continued, "after all it was my fault you didn't get to eat earlier."

Alexis sat and watched as Sonny put most of the items back in the fridge and then took out several different ones.

Before long they sat down together to enjoy the meal he had cooked. Alexis was extremely uncomfortable at first, remembering the last time they had shared a meal but as they began to eat she became more relaxed. It was almost like old times and for the first time Alexis saw a possibility she hadn't allowed herself to consider before.

Meanwhile across town Jason Morgan stood in Penthouse 2 staring blankly out the window when he heard someone knocking on his door. Opening he discovered two children a boy and girl. Though the boy appeared to be slightly older it was the girl who spoke first.

"Excuse me, is Alexis Davis here?" Asked the young girl with long brown hair and deep brown eyes that Jason could swear he had seen before.
