Jax's voice had carried across the station and the Sonny, Mac and Taggert all turned and watched as he came towards them. The little girl looked at the man who was approaching and immediately smiled.
"Uncle Dax," she called happily. This caused Mac and Taggert to look to Jax then to Sonny and the girl and back again, giving the impression they were watching a tennis game. Sonny kept his eyes on Jax, something was going on.
"Uh hi sweetie, what are you doing here?" Jax asked the child glancing at Sonny before returning to Kasey.
"Find Mommy." Came the serious reply.
"Where is your mother?"
"Don't know." Now Jax looked more intently at Sonny.
"Where is she Sonny, what did you do?"
"Me? I don't even..." Sonny suddenly stopped talking, stopped breathing actually and looked at the child in his arms. This child who had deep brown eyes, dark curls, dimples, who loved popcorn and called Candy boy uncle Jax. "She's mine isn't she?" He asked Jax. "Mine and Alexis', our daughter." He spoke the words quietly, calmly not wanting to upset the child, his child.
"Where is Alexis Sonny?" Jax asked ignoring the earlier question. There was no reason for him to answer, Sonny knew.
"I don't know."
"Then how did you end up with Kasey?" Jax asked beginning to realize the seriousness of the situation.
"She was on the elevator when the door opened, she just walked out, no one was with her."
"That doesn't make any sense Alexis would never leave her alone not after all she's done to protect her." He was speaking more to himself than anyone else.
Sonny for his part appeared to be off in his own world. He was looking at Kasey and seeing Alexis in her. How could he not have seen it before, she was so much like her mother.
"Sonny I think we should talk somewhere else." Jax addressed Sonny but he didn't respond. "Sonny, we need to talk, about Alexis." The sound of her name seemed to bring him out of the trance. "Um we'll go make a few phone calls and see if we can figure out what happened. I'm sure it's just a mix-up." Jax told Mac as he practically dragged Sonny out of the police station. Mac, Taggert and Skye stood there, a trio of silence. At last Skye spoke.
"Sonny slept with Alexis?"
"Lucky Bastard." Mac and Taggert mumbled almost in unison. Then quickly walked away in opposite directions, leaving Skye alone.
Johnny hadn't believed his eyes when Jax and Sonny had come out of the police station, the little girl still in Sonny's arms. He was even more surprised when Jax followed them back to the penthouse and Sonny let him in without a word.
"Johnny could you take Kasey upstairs and read her a story or something." Jax asked knowing that he and Sonny needed to speak in private. Johnny looked at Sonny wondering what was going on and why Jax was giving him orders. Sonny was still dazed but handed Kasey to Johnny.
"I'll see you in a couple minutes sweetie, have fun with Johnny." He said not wanting to let her go but knowing that he needed to find out what was happening.
Kasey however did not want to leave and wrapped her tiny arm around Sonny neck. Sonny sat down on the sofa and gently pulled her hands away settling her on his lap.
"Sweetie, I need to talk to uncle Jax, he nearly choked on the word uncle. As soon as I finish I'll come up and we'll play together for the rest of the day, okay?" She sat in silence obviously thinking over his offer.
"Pwomise?" She asked finally.
"Yes, I promise."
"Okay. She agreed reaching towards Johnny. Once they were gone Sonny turned to Jax now fully recovered from his shock.
"You know what happened to Alexis don't you?"
"I don't, not for sure, but I have my suspicions."
"What?" Sonny asked impatiently when Jax failed to continue.
"Helena." He said at last.
"Jax, Helena died last year in prison, remember?" Sonny dismissed.
"That wasn't Helena."
"What?" Suddenly Sonny was on full alert. "How do you know that?"
"Luke told Alexis just before she left town. Apparently Helena paid someone to have plastic surgery and go to prison in her place."
"Why didn't Luke tell the police?"
"I don't know some weird Spencer code or something anyway Helena is free and alive and most likely has Alexis." Sonny stood absorbing this information. In the last hour he had learnt that he and Alexis had a daughter that Helena was alive and the she had kidnapped Alexis. He wasn't sure how much more he could handle. "Sonny you need to call your people, have them start looking for her, I'll go back to my place and make some phone calls as well." Sonny couldn't believe he was taking orders from Jax. But to find Alexis he was willing to do anything. "I better get going, tell Kasey I said bye."
"Um Jax wait," as much as he didn't want to ask Jax for anything he was the only person who could give him answers at the moment. "Kasey, is it a nickname? Does she have a middle name?" For the first time Jax felt sympathy for Sonny. He obviously loved his daughter and in the short time they had been together a bond had already been formed. Still, he didn't even know his child's name.
"It is a nickname, her initials actually." He told him. "Alexis named her Karina Davis Corinthos." She had given their child his last name, Sonny thought. He couldn't believe the happiness that simple fact brought him.
"Karina, it's a pretty name," he said as he turned around, he did not want Jax to see the tears in his eyes.
"Apparently she liked the meaning."
"The meaning? What does it mean?"
"Little One."
