Alexis backed out of the L&B building, hoping that no one had seen her. Not that she really had to worry; Ned and Kristina were far too wrapped up in what they were doing to notice her. Alexis was confronted with a mental image of the scene she had just witnessed and quickly pushed it from her mind. Though she was over Ned, the image of him making out with her little sister was one she could have happily done without. She needed to go home.
Sonny paced around his living room. He was upset but more than that he was confused. He was angry because Carly had kissed someone else, wasn't he? Then why did Alexis keep coming into his thoughts? He kept replaying their last conversation over and over in his head. "I need to be alone." "You already are." He wished he could take the words back, he wished he could take the entire conversation back. He knew Alexis was not one to let people in easily, neither was he. It was one of the many things they shared in common. Still she wasn't alone. She definitely had more people that loved her than he did. Her family loved her, even if her sister did give new meaning to the word flighty and her brother was only slightly more animated than a statue. Ashton loved her, so did Candyboy, though neither of them deserved her. He loved her... He loved her... The thought came to him as though it was the most natural thing in the world, he loved her. He stood, waiting for the denial, the qualification but it didn't come. Now that he admitted it, at least to himself, Sonny began to realize the things he felt for Alexis were not new. He had been feeling them for a long time. Over the last few months he had noticed a change in his view of her, a thought, here a feeling there, but he always pushed them aside, refusing to acknowledge them. Here now was the sum of all those thoughts, feelings, fantasies, he was in love with Alexis Davis.
There was a knock at the door followed by the appearance of Johnny, "Ms. Davis is here."
"Great let her in." Suddenly Sonny couldn't stop smiling. However Johnny was looking decidedly uncomfortable, he kept glancing over his shoulder.
"Um she just went to her place, I guess she changed her mind." Johnny explained further and then seemed to almost duck as though he was expecting Sonny to throw something at him. Instead he calmly walked passed him into the hall where Alexis stood trying to fit her key in the lock.
"Alexis?" Sonny spoke coming up behind her. "Did you want to see me?" He was grinning.
"I did but I changed my mind." She explained continuing to attack her lock.
"Why?" Still his smile stood, only enhanced by her perplexing behavior.
"You're cheerful." It was an accusation and so he replied accordingly.
"Guilty as charged."
"Don't even joke about that, she spoke in a hurried whisper. "You know Tagert probably has this entire place bugged. He's just waiting for you to admit guilt, to anything.
"I don't think even Tagert would charge me with cheerfulness, he replied trying not to laugh at how adorable she was being.
"You're definitely way to cheerful for me to deal with right now." She had finally managed to get the door open and began to make her way inside.
"Alexis wait, what's wrong?"
"What's wrong? What's wrong? What could possibly be wrong? My family? I have a wonderful brother, who has moved halfway around the world and I'll probably never see him again. I have a little sister who adores me, of course she apparently she also adores my ex-fiancé's neck and various other parts as witnessed by the fact that I just caught them... never mind. I don't want to talk about that, family isn't everything, lets talk about my career. I am a high paid, well respected, for the most part, attorney. Of course my main client it a mob boss, which means work related mishaps have now been stretched to include being shot at and blown up..." Sonny could see the wheels in Alexis' mind spinning out of control, yup, she was definitely unhinged.
"Alexis sit down before you fall, please." She sat or rather fell onto the sofa and allowed him to sit beside her. That's better, now what's up with Kristina and Ned?"
"How did you... never mind." The fact that Sonny had been able to sort through her ramblings and discover the true reason for her mood only served to upset Alexis more. The man knew her too well, how long before he discovered all her secrets?
