Chapter 8

Alexis woke up on the couch, still wearing her dress from the night before. Sonny was gone. At least she thought he was until he came out of her kichen carrying some coffee.

''You look like you could use this,'' he said handing her a cup.

''You don't exactly look a hundred percent this morning,'' Alexis replied taking in his wrinked clothes and slightly messed hair. To be honest he looked even better than he had last night but she wasn't about to tell him that.

''Did you get any sleep last night?'' she asked.

''A little.'' There was no way Sonny could tell her that he had gotten his best nights sleep in ages holding her in his arms. Still it was true, perhaps it was because he knew he could trust her completely, she brought him peace of mind. Sonny glanced at his watch and Alexis picked up on it.

''Do you have somewhere you have to be? I've got a meeting in about an hour but I could cancel.''

''Don't you dare, I'm fine... I'm fine.'' she repeated as much to convince herself as him.

Reluctantly Sonny headed back to his place to get ready for his meeting. A bit later Kristina came downstairs.

''Good morning. Is Sonny still here?''

''Why didn't you wake us up when you came in last night?''

''Honestly you both looked happy where you were'' Alexis chose to ignore her sister's comments.

''It's a good thing Jax didn't see you two when he brought me home last night,'' Kristina stated causually while helping herself to some coffee.

''Jax?''

''Yeah he was worried about you after all the weird stuff at the party. What was all that about anyway?''

''Kristina keep on topic, Jax was here last night?''

''Yup, he offered to drive me home though I think he was more concerned with checking up on you. When I opened the door and saw you and Sonny on the couch I told him you were sleeping and it would be easier for me to come in alone and not wake you.''

''What did he say?''

''He said he'd come by this morning to see you, relax he didn't see you and Sonny.'' she assurred Alexis noticing her worried expression.

''Kristina Sonny and I weren't doing anything.''

''Of course not.'' Kristina replied knowingly.

Alexis muttered something unpleasent and went upstairs to get ready for the day. By the time she came back downstairs there was a note from Kristina saying that she had taken Jillian Christmas shopping. A couple minutes there was a knock on the door followed by Max's voice,

''Miss Davis, Mr. Jax is here to see you.''

Alexis opened up the door in time to see Jax glaring at Max before smiling at her.

''Good morning beautiful.''

''Good morning, come on in.''

''I came by last night to bring Kristina home...''

''I know she told me. Sorry I was asleep.''

''No problem it was quite a night for you.'' He left the statement hanging inviting her to explain but not pressuring her. She sat down on her couch and motioned him to sit beside her. She knew she could trust him. He had been so wonderful to her, he had given her a family through their marriage and he had found her sister for her. Yes she could trust Jax.

''That man last night... Danniel, we were... involved several years ago.''

''I see,'' Jax replied. ''Did you love him?''

''Yes, at least I thought I did but then... he... he''

''Alexis you don't have to tell me this if you don't want to.''

''He hurt me very badly...'' Alexis saw the rage in Jax's eyes and quickly corrected herself, ''not physically Jax he never hit me. He lied to me and manipulated me into doing what he wanted. I found out the truth eventually and I left him. I hadn't seen him since until last night.''

''He knew you were going to be at the party, didn't he?''

''I think so,'' she answered reluctantly.

''How?'' Alexis took a deep breath. She knew it must have been Helena that told him but if she told this to Jax she would have to tell him the rest of the story and she wasn't ready for that yet. Before she could tell him anything his cell phone rang.

''Hello. Ned, hi. What right now? Yes I'm at her place right now. I'll ask her. Alright see you shortly.'' Jax hung up the phone and turned to Alexis with a exasperated look on his face.

''Well it looks like Edwards gotten ELQ into another mess.''

''What?''

''Apparently Danniel is insisting on a bunch of amendments to the deal he made with Edward and so they're calling an emergency board meeting.

''I guess you have to go then.''

''Well actually Ned was wondering if you would mind coming too. Apparently Danniel is throwing around a lot of legal threats and Ned wants someone there to defuse the situation. You don't have to do this, I can say you were busy.''

''No I'm not going to avoid him. Danniel Marrik is no longer a part of my life, its time he realized it.'' she stated with as much bravado as she could muster.

Thirty minutes later standing outside the Quartermain mansion Alexis was having second thoughts.

''Maybe this isn't such a good idea.''

Noticing the fear in her voice Jax wanted nothing more than to take her back to the car and drive her a thousand miles away from Danniel Marrik and anything else that could hurt her but he couldn't. He knew she had to this so instead he offered her his support. Taking her hand in his he smiled brightly.

''It will be okay, I promise.'' he assured her. Reginald opened the door and they entered the house.
