WElcome to web design 2 spring 2006!

Welcome to the web design 2 class. I hope you remember lots from the first semester so that you can hit the ground running. We will, of course, do some review; if it's not review for you, make a commitment to learn everything you can quickly so you apply the best practices and current standards to all your work this semester.

our first project

The first thing we'll do is to make this home page for the semester. We'll use CSS for all positioning and all text formatting. (Say goodbye to frames and tables!) We'll use PhotoShop to edit or create images, including a navigation bar similar to the one up top. If you don't know PhotoShop at all, find a friend in class who can help you out; editing your images is an important part of web design.

We'll be signing up from free web hosting with Tripod.com, mainly because it supports FTP and that will make your life simpler. All project will be graded as they appear on the web linked to your Tripod home page.

Next . . .

After that , as you can see from this page's menu, we'll be creating a gallery of images from scratch; going back to Iceland to learn a little PHP; adding to high school's website with an updated class, club, team, teacher or other page; and learning a little JavaScript, all during third quarter.

During fourth quarter, we'll design a logo and on-line presence for a small business website; create a website for a local band or other client; spend time on a lengthy project of your choice; and show what you know in a final exam.
