By Gerome Melaet Most people know that a new student arrived at the beginning of this semester. Her name, for the ones who don't know, is Katya Kazachenko, and she comes from Russia. So as a foreign student also, I thought I might ask her some questions. Gerome: Where are you from? Katya: I was born in the south of Russia, in a beautiful city called Rostov-on Dov. It is the regional center. Rostov is a historical city; there are a lot of museums and theatres of old time. G: Why did you come to the USA? K: My mom wished to arrive in the USA, and I am her youngest daughter. G: How long have you been here? K: I have been in the US a little more than one month. G: What did you think the first time that you saw USA? K: At the airport in New-York, I was panicked. But after a while, I liked this new nation. American is a very kind and happy nation. G: What was your reaction when somebody told you that you will live in the USA? K: I did not believe it. G: Do you like your new life here? K: I like to learn new things, (since) all is unusual for me. I am here only one month, but already I have grown fond of America G: Are you an exchange student or do you have the intention to stay in USA? K: I am not, and I will remain to live in USA. G: What is the most difficult thing about being a "foreigner"? K: I consider that it is the language barrier, but I hope that soon I will speak better. G: Do you feel excluded or well assimilated? K: I feel some distinctions; I am not assimilated yet. It is really difficult. G: Do you want to go back home? K: I now live in USA, but the melancholy is present. G: So do you have many friends? K: Yes, I already have many good friends. G: What do you miss the most from your home land? K: Most of all, I miss my friends. I write letters to Russia. The theatre, too; I went to the theatre each week. G: What do you expect from USA? K: I want finish my school and study in the unity. G: Do you find the courses really difficult? K: No, I do not find them difficult. It is now simply difficult with the language. G: Do you agree with the people who say, "It must be cool to be a foreigner." K: Yes, I do. G: Are you involved in a sport team or any club? If not, do you want to? K: I am not, but very much I want it. G: Do you want to build you future in the USA or in your birth country?
