Student Adds Russian Flavor to H-K

 By Gerome Melaet
Most people know that a new student arrived at the beginning of this semester. Her name, for the ones who don't know, is Katya Kazachenko, and she comes from Russia. So as a foreign student also, I thought I might ask her some questions.
  Gerome: Where are you from?
Katya: I was born in the south of Russia, in a beautiful city called Rostov-on Dov. It is the regional center. Rostov is a historical city; there are a lot of museums and theatres of old time.
G: Why did you come to the USA?
K: My mom wished to arrive in the USA, and I am her youngest daughter.
G: How long have you been here?
K: I have been in the US a little more than one month.
G: What did you think the first time that you saw USA?
K: At the airport in New-York, I was panicked. But after a while, I liked this new nation. American is a very kind and happy nation.
G: What was your reaction when somebody told you that you will live in the USA?
K: I did not believe it.
G: Do you like your new life here?
K: I like to learn new things, (since) all is unusual for me. I am here only one month, but already I have grown fond of America
G: Are you an exchange student or do you have the intention to stay in USA?
K: I am not, and I will remain to live in USA.
G: What is the most difficult thing about being a "foreigner"?
K: I consider that it is the language barrier, but I hope that soon I will speak better.
G: Do you feel excluded or well assimilated?
K: I feel some distinctions; I am not assimilated yet. It is really difficult.
G: Do you want to go back home?
K: I now live in USA, but the melancholy is present.
G: So do you have many friends?
K: Yes, I already have many good friends.
G: What do you miss the most from your home land?
K: Most of all, I miss my friends. I write letters to Russia. The theatre, too; I went to the theatre each week.
G: What do you expect from USA?
K: I want finish my school and study in the unity.
G: Do you find the courses really difficult?
K: No, I do not find them difficult. It is now simply difficult with the language.
G: Do you agree with the people who say, "It must be cool to be a foreigner."
  K: Yes, I do.
G: Are you involved in a sport team or any club? If not, do you want to?
K: I am not, but very much I want it.
G: Do you want to build you future in the USA or in your birth country?
K: I think in the USA.
G: And the last question; What is your dream?
  K: It is my secret!
