The Unicorns are over . . . finished for good. But this time we disbanded the club ourselves! Of course, certain members are more responsible than others - Lila, Mary, and Ellen, to be exact. They wanted more time to hang out with their new boyfriends. I mean, boys are cool and all, but they're definately not worth losing your friends over.
Now I hear Rick Hunter is going to the next big school dance with Amanda Harmon - and not with Mary, who's supposed to be his girlfriend! And - this is so aweful! - Rick's planning to dump Mary in public!
Nobody gets away with humiliating a Unicorn, club or no club. The thing is, I can't put Rick in his place all by myself. I probably have a better chance of marrying Johnny Buck than of getting the unicorns back together, but if we don't help Mary, who will?
"We need to have a club meeting," Jessica said. "If you guys can't make it, then-"
"Well, Jessica." Lila flipped her hair over her shoulder and glanced over toward Tommy. "You might find this hard to believe, but sometimes there are more important things in life than having a little meeting."
"So spending time with your boyfriends is more important than spending time with us?" Elizabeth asked. "Do you actually mean that?"
"You guys just don't understand," Mary said quietly.
"No, you don't understand," Jessica said. "Either you want to be our friends, and be Unicorns, or you don't. And if you don't come to that meeting tomorrow night, then I guess you don't want to be unicorns anymore!"
"Well, if being a Unicorn means we have tospend every single second with you, then maybe you're right!" Mandy said.
"If our friendship isn't worth anything to you, then let's just forget about having a club," Elizabeth said.
The bell rang to start school, but I couldn't move. I couldn't believe it. Half the club had chosen boyfriends over being Unicorns.
Things are OK for now, but will the peace among the Unicorns last? The Unicorns at War
