The shocking murder of Nick Fox has left Jessica Wakefield shattered. After enduring the burial of her lost love, she must face the pain of going on without him. No one really knows how badly Jessica's hurting -not even her twin sister. And no matter how loudly she cries for help, no one seems to hear. Will Jessica decide to drop out... forever?
Elizabeth Wakefield wishes she'd never heard about the passionate nights Tom Watts spent with Dana Upshaw. Now, as she cares for her devestated sister, she realizes what little passion there is in her own life. Will Elizabeth abandon her worrywart ways and show everyone at SVU - especially Tom- just how carefree and sexy she can be without him?
The cemetery was one of the oldest in southern California. It was simple and beautiful, with wild flowers springing between the tombstones. Glossy ivy leaves carpeted the gray walls of the church, and a large willow tree swayed gracefully in the breeze.
The mourners assembled around the open grave as Nick's casket was tenderly laid to rest. Jessica, his parents, and his closest friends -Elizabeth included- were given dark red roses to toss onto the casket before the plot was covered with earth.
Suddenly, Elizabeth realized it was her turn. She walked past the grave diggers, her eyes nearly blinded by tears, and looked down at Nicks final resting place. Elizabeth uttered a silent prayer and tossed her rose until it landed, six feet down, with the others.
As she left to take her place at Jessica's side, Mr. Fox picked up a shovel and tossed in the first clump of earth. The dirt and pebbles made a harsh sound as they struck the coffin.
Elizabeth wanted to cover her ears to block out the noise. How could something as simple as a little earth hitting a wooden box sound so ugly. Why did it have to sound so final? And how could Jessica stand to hear it without breaking down?
