Nightmute originally formed in 2001 as a 2 man cover band "The Tenacious B" who mainly covered instrumental versions of Radiohead, Oasis, Green Day, and popular "Pop Songs" but later moved on to become who they are today. It was in the summer of 2003 where they finally decided to record an album based upon their previous untitled original work. Nightmute the album consists of instrumental music capable of astonishing even the biggest of crowds.

Nightmute consists of:
Matt Gutoski: Rhythm Guitar and Percussion
Billy Rood: Lead Guitar, Keyboard and Drums

Matt Gutoski and Billy Rood starting writing songs as soon as they picked up playing guitar in their late stages. Before high school Billy finally decided to quit Bass Guitar and play regular Electric Guitar as he was listening to Joe Satriani and bands such as Radiohead and Tool. While three and a half years later, Matt as a senior, out of boredom finally decided to give it a shot. Being fellow locker partners in High School with similar musical tastes, they began to jam and soon developed the chemistry that has now formed into the Naperville, IL based band NightMute.

Nightmute is a collaborative effort into making strong structured instrumental music that stands in a genre in itself. Borrowing much influence from tell-tortured melodies of Radiohead, the funk rock/rap of 311, the industrialization of Pitchshifter, and distorted angst of The Smashing Pumpkins, the blending of such genre's, mix into an amazing sonic and trance-like sound. An album made out of boredom, potential songs, lack of funds, and members, Nightmute sounds far from the truth.
Matt Gutoski: Born and raised in Naperville for all of the life he can remember, Matt picked up guitar inspired mostly by the masterful and awe inspiring guitar theatrics of friend Tony Riva and band mate Billy. He received his first guitar, an old acoustic Epiphone, from his mother (which probably explains his obsessive nature over acoustic guitars). While spending hours on end practicing he picked up much needed, and appreciated, technique from his friends at home and at school.

After three and a half years, and some new gear, main influences can be seen from artists Howie Day and Raidohead. Other inspiring bands include 311, Coldplay, Pitchshifter, Vast, Smashing Pumpkins/Zwan, and at the drive-in.

Today Matt remains a full time student at Western Illinois University working summers to make his way through the school year(Change of Pace here I come!). Studying Computer Science Matt spends time coding programs using various programming languages such as: Java, C++, Html(obviously), Visual Basic, Cobol, or Q-basic. I think we can agree on the term best fitting as NERD!

Billy Rood: While he's not at home in Naperville, IL he's a full-time student at the prestigious Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA studying and developing the skills to be a full fledge Director of Hollywood movies. Influenced by such films such as Vertigo, A Clockwork Orange, Saving Private Ryan, Fight Club, and Road to Perdition he strives to become the next legendary filmmaker. In his free time he also does Graphic Designs and Webpages as you can all see with his original © NightMute artwork.

His musical influences range in a variety of genre's to his most adored bands Radiohead and Coldplay. Coming close in behind are Sigur Ros, Muse, Kent, Girls Against Boys, Vast, and Massive Attack. Growing up to Classical Rock and Oldies he also listens to a variety of bands such as CCR, Lynard Skynard, and Led Zeppelin. His guitar influences range from the awe inspiring solo's of Joe Satriani, the melodic and serene sound of Jonny Greenword, and the God of all guitarists, Jimmy Page.

What you would call a true starving artist, Billy works (sometimes) 8) to build up a steady instrumental collection. On guitars, he plays an Ibanez SA160,and an acoustic Takamine Jasmine , and uses a Korg Toneworks AX1 Guitar Pedal. And to build the symphonic textures, he orchestrates with a Yamaha PSR-85 Portotone Keyboard.
