Cherrystyle Layout HELP - everything I learned from start to finish

I am creating this page because I have found that there are tons of people out there that could really use step by step instructions for getting a cherrystyle layout to work for them. So if you're like countless others and just can't figure it out... this might just help you!!!!

SIDENOTE.... I highly recommend downloading 1stpage 2000 It is the tool I use to edit html. I prefer this tool to edit html for two distinct reasons. First of all, it organizes the html very nicely and makes it easy to read by color coding certain things... Second of all it has a handy feature which allows you to preview the page you are editing. So please click the link and make editing layouts that much easier for yourself....

STEP ONE: JOIN CHERRYSTYLE

1.     Go to CherryStyle

2.     Read the Rules

3.     JOIN and ADD Cherrystyle

4.     Comment on this post Don't say add me. You don't need to be added. Consider instead saying thank you or hello

STEP TWO: CHOOSE A PREMADE OR CUSTOMIZABLE LAYOUT

A.  Pre-made Layouts (layouts which include cherrystyle images)

  1. Click here to get to the examples.
  2. Click the icons for previews.
  3. Find a layout you desire.
  4. Write down the GJ journal # next to that style (This is the public style ID #)
  5. Click the download link and save the images to your computer.

B.  Customizable Layouts  (Layouts which you add your own image to)

1.     Click here to view a list of 8 customizable styles.

2.     Click the # for previews.

3.     When you find a style you like write down the GJ # for each view!
Journal view
friends view
calendar view
day view

These are your public style ID numbers!!!

NOTE: You might also want to save to your own hard drive a copy of the sample images (background image and main image) on the sample page. This is helpful when trying to resize the images to look well with the layout design.

STEP THREE: UPLOAD IMAGES

You MUST upload the images you are using to your own GJ host!

To do this:

1.Go to Greatest Journal and Login
2.Click the Image Hosting Link #3.Scroll to the bottom and upload your images.
4.Note the HTML for the image. You will need it

STEP FOUR: CREATING STYLES

1.     Go to edit style using the left menu of GJ

2.     Select most recent events

3.     Enter the journal style ID# into the box

4.     Scroll down and click create style

The process is generally the same for each page in your journal
You must repeat this process (steps 1 through 4 of CREATING STYLES) for friends view, calendar view, and day view

STEP FIVE: EDITING STYLES

1.     Go back to edit style using the left menu of GJ

2.     Pick a style you just made from the box (example: lastn(#)username_lastn_new is your most recent events page)

3.     Select the Action Edit in Easy Mode and Click proceed

4.     Now…. scroll all the way down to the very last and largest text box on the page….

If you already know how to edit html, this is where you do it. MAKE SURE to replace all the image tag urls with the urls from your own greatest journal or other image hosting, otherwise you will end up direct linking and have those sample images on your page that say  "sample image:direct linking is not allowed" Be careful not to delete anything that you are unsure of or it could ruin the whole layout!!

If you don't know HTML, click here for the layout HTML HELP section

5. Edit your style to your liking (note: preview style link on edit page won’t show changes unless you save the style)
6. Scroll down and click button to save your style!!!!

7. REPEAT THESE STEPS FOR EACH JOURNAL VIEW (most recent events, friends, calendar, day)

STEP FOUR: APPLY STYLE TO YOUR JOURNAL

1.     Go to Modify Journal using the left menu of GJ

2.     You should see a nice little table here that says Page Layout Style above it.

3.     For each journal view (most recent events, friends, calendar, day) select the userstyle with the corresponding name        (it should be something like lastn(#)username_lastn_new, friends(#)username_friends_new, etc.)

4.     Scroll all the way down and click the save changes button

Alrighty! Now if Go to your main journal page it should have the layout on it!!!!! =)

If you found this helpful I would LOVE it if you put a link to it and/or link to my journal from yours,

but I don't require it... I just wanna help out =)
