Vasquez' article described situations that are still happening to this very day. Unfortunally, people are immature and pathetic enough to pick on others just because they are not sure of their sexual orientation. The violent events that were mention are fairly common in my community. For example, the news was just announcing an incident of gay-bashing that happened thrusday night. It was reported that 3 gay men were killed at a gay bar by people who simple came in asking if it was a gay bar and then started fighting. Many people are aware of this problem but choose not to do anything about gay-bashing for the simple fact that they might be seen as being gay/lesbian. Lately, I have seen a fair amount of news and information about the gay/lesbian community. A lot of people have been involve in the rights they deserve but at the same time there is a lot of discrimination against them.
