...what it’s like her full name is britney jean spears, but everybody knows her as the queen of pop. she was born in kentwood, louisiana on december 2nd, 1981. britney began performing at early age, and when she was 8 she auditioned for the mickey mouse club. although she was too young for the show, a producer helped her secure an agent in new york city where britney spent the next three years studying dance and music. she also appeared in commercials, films and theatres.
when britney turned 11 she was old enough to enter the mickey mouse club (where she met justin timberlake, christina aguilera and j.c. chasez). she stayed there the next two years relocating with her family to orlando. after the 2 years britney went back home but she wanted to be a singer anyway. armed with those desires and a powerful voice, britney went back to new york when she was 15 and began to make the rounds of record labels.
a real record-breaker she sang accappella for executives at jive records who saw and heard right away that in the teenager from louisiana there were the makings of a star. britney was signed soon after her audition and began work thereafter on what would become "…baby one more time". this album, her first, made britney the youngest artist to have an album and a single in the first place the same time and a certified riaa 12x platinum album.
in 1999 she was nominated for two grammy's. in the europe music awards the same year she won in 4 categories: best female, best pop, best breakthrough artist, and best song. along with her rigorous schedule and the release of her successful 2x platinum home video time out with britney spears.
heart to heart with britney in late 1999, britney and her mother have written a book entitled heart to heart. britney has also created the britney spears foundation in conjunction with the giving back fund. its first endowment is the formation of a performing arts summer camp for underprivileged kids in massachusetts. "i’m so happy to be able to give kids the opportunity to learn about amazing world of dance and music that i’ve have been lucky enough to make it such a big part of my own life" brit says.
after her second album, "oops… i did it again!", everybody has seen what britney is able to do. in this album britney gave another image: sexy, sassy, and solidly in control. but maybe some people weren’t ready for that. on the mtv video music awards 2000 britney – in my opinion -- had a great performance. however, many people would disagree. she wore an incredible, skin-colored outfit that looked gorgeous on her which many critics disapproved of. "i still don’t see the problem with my outfit" says britney.
”crossroads” on the mtv video music awards 2001, britney performed “i'm a slave 4 u”, her first single off her 3rd album called "britney" that released november 6th, 2001. this album broke records, as did the first and second, and made britney the first artist in the history of music to have her first 3 albums in first place on the charts.
you only need to hear one song from both ”…baby one more time” and "britney" in order to be able to note the difference. "this was my most personal work" says britney. one of her most recently-released songs, "i'm not a girl, not yet a woman" is on the soundtrack of her first movie called "crossroads". this movie was a total hit in the united states and most of the world. "crossroads is about 3 teenage girls finding themselves" comments britney, "i had so much fun doing it, and every single girl can relate to the movie".
the future of britney spears but no one said her life was all happiness and fun. britney was very sad when she and her ex-boyfriend, ex *n sync boy, justin timberlake, broke up in early 2002. "you know, life goes on and there's nothing you can do. a part of me will always love him." after some incidents in mexico on her "dream within a dream" tour, britney decided to take a 6 month break. but don’t start thinking that a girl as determined as britney will just give up on her dreams, because she’ll just keep following until they come true. it’s what she does.
